Sullenberger Aviation Museum Announces Official Grand Opening Next Month

0

The Sullenberger Aviation Museum has just announced plans to officially open its doors to the public on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. Capt. C.B. “Sully” Sullenberger, who, along with his crew, maneuvered the famed “Miracle on the Hudson” landing – and for whom the Museum is named – will be in Charlotte to celebrate during a week of opening activities.

A limited number of tickets for opening day (June 1) are now available for purchase at a special rate of $5 per ticket. Tickets for all other dates through Labor Day have also been released for sale. Regular admission prices are $24 for adults; $20 for seniors, veterans, military, and educators; and $18 for students (ages 5 to 17). Members and children under five are always free. Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.sullenbergeraviation.org/buy-tickets/.

Once the museum opens, the fully immersive “Miracle on the Hudson” exhibit will include salvaged passenger and crew items like beverage carts, life preservers and luggage, alongside a theatrical experience featuring a large multimedia screen where visitors will be taken through the journey of Flight 1549, beginning with the plane taking off from LaGuardia Airport and ending with the extensive news coverage of the day and subsequent investigation into its engine failure.

“The Sullenberger Aviation Museum has for more than a decade played a crucial role in preserving the history of one of our country’s most iconic aviation events representing the indomitable human spirit and an unyielding dedication to passenger safety,” said Sullenberger Aviation Museum President Stephen Saucier. “But our reimagined ’Miracle on the Hudson’ exhibit isn’t just recounting the past; it’s a catalyst for the future. The Sullenberger Aviation Museum aims to ignite the dreams of aspiring aviators, engineers and innovators who will inherit and perpetuate Capt. Sullenberger’s legacy of excellence, heroism and courage.”

Other notable aircraft that have also moved into the museum’s Main Gallery include a replica of Orville and Wilbur Wright’s original Wright Flyer plane; a Vietnam-era F-4S Phantom II; one of only two existing Skystreak planes used to test breaking the sound barrier; and a TV-1, America’s first operational jet fighter. Each aircraft’s exhibit will feature a tablet installed with immersive augmented reality (AR) technology where guests can piece together each aircraft’s unique journey.

Here is a fly-through of the future museum:

Here’s How To Plan The Perfect Picnic In Charlotte

0

Hanging in my dining room is one of my most favorite pieces of artwork. An artist’s easel is setup in a field of colorful flowers. Next to it is a blanket with a wicker basket, fruit and a glass pitcher. It’s the ideal picnic scene.

The perfect picnic doesn’t have to live only on my wall. There are ways to make a simple picnic in a beautiful place.

Local experts share their thoughts with Charlotte Stories on how to plan the perfect picnic:

Choose the right spot

Clark Creek Nature Preserve
Clark Creek Nature Preserve

Finding a place to picnic in Charlotte isn’t difficult. There are parks with picnic tables, shelters and grassy knolls in most every part of the county.

Buzzard Rock at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve

Michael Kirschman is the Deputy Director of Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department. “Best kept picnic spot, in my opinion, is Buzzard Rock overlook at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve,” Kirschman said. “The view is the best in the area overlooking Mountain Island Lake. Short path brings you to a wooden deck with built in seating.”

Kirschman also recommended Clarks Creek Nature Preserve in the University City area. It has blooming wildflowers, a shelter, grill and playground.

Ramsey Creek Park on Lake Norman offers several picnic options. Walk along the path to find tables with a view of the lake. Some spots are secluded with a small sandy beach, perfect for spreading out your blanket. Later, take a short walk to the park’s swimming area for a quick dip.

Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, Romare Bearden Park, Freedom Park, Park Road Park and Jetton Park have many options for picnics. For larger groups, shelters with covered seating areas may be rented through Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation.

Bring the best foods

Once you know where you’re headed, choosing your menu is next. Amanda McLamb is The Foodie Realtor at Cottingham Chalk Hayes. She is @clthomes by day and @ravenouspanda for every meal.

“A picnic spread is all about communal feasting,” McLamb suggested. “I always like to pack items that are easy finger foods.”

For McLamb, an ideal picnic meal is an array of cheeses and cured meats, freshly baked bread and olive oil with sea salt flakes mixed with either red pepper flakes or shaved truffles. Add pickled or fresh chopped veggies to the menu for crunch.

“Lately, I loved roasting stone fruits, especially peaches, when they are in-season, on parchment paper or on the grill until caramelized, tossed with salt and balsamic reduction and served on bread with mascarpone,” said McLamb.

Caroline Winchester, Catering Sales Manager for Dean & DeLuca at Phillips Place, suggested heirloom tomatoes in a cucumber and tomato salad or caprese salad with tomato, basil and mozzarella.

“I love the vibrant colors that these salads have as well as the crisp taste of summer that both bring to the palate,” Winchester said.

Add the finishing touches to your menu with splendid drinks. “When I think summer picnic I can’t help but remember all the days on Lake Norman as a child, and my mom bringing lemonade for us,” Winchester said. “It’s the quintessential summer staple drink. You can mix it with tea or something a little stronger depending on your style.”

Make it look good

Picnic Basket

The presentation of your picnic is almost as important as the food you’ll eat. An attractive cooler or basket with a table cloth or blanket can make the meal feel special. These shops have what you need:

Blis Gift Boutique in the Overstreet Mall sells Urban Baskets, Scout coolers, plastic appetizer plates and platters and Swig wine glasses and Swell bottles; $15-$30. 100 North Tryon Street Suite 265

L&M Monogramming has easy to carry picnic blankets that include a free monogram with the purchase; $30. 310 East Blvd. Suite 1

The Greener Apple carries Klean Kanteen bottles, To-Go Ware bamboo utensils and stainless steel containers and LunchBots; $13-$31. 1306 The Plaza

Pro Tips for the Perfect Picnic

  1. Don’t forget the essentials. Pack utensils, plates, napkins and water.

2. Picnics don’t have to be homemade. Pick up food from your favorite deli or restaurant.

3. Choose shade. Charlotte summers are hot, but sometimes a shady spot can make all the difference.

How to increase your chances of winning if you play in an Australian online casino for real money

0

Online gambling has become a popular pastime for many players who are seeking to have fun while also having the opportunity to win big. However, not all players are successful in their pursuit of winning. In this article, we will provide detailed guidelines on how players can increase their chances of winning in the best online casinos in Australia.

Choose Trusted Casinos

Choosing a reputable and licensed online casino is crucial to ensuring a fair and safe gaming experience. When players choose a real money online casino Australia with an excellent reputation, this will ensure that the games are not rigged and the payouts are consistent and reliable.

When you play casinos online for real money and choose trusted casinos, you can be sure that your personal and financial information is secure and that you are playing on a platform that adheres to strict standards and regulations. Therefore, it is crucial to do thorough research before signing up with an online casino.

Understand Game Mechanics

When you play casinos online in Australia, the choice of games can greatly impact your chances of winning. In particular, players should consider the following consider factors:

  • the game’s RTP,
  • volatility,
  • game rules and mechanics and others.

Different games offer varying odds and levels of risk. Some games require more skill, while others rely more on luck. Consider your playing style, preferences, and goals when choosing a game. The Payback Percentage, also known as Return to Player (RTP), shows how much of a game’s stakes returns to players over time. A higher RTP means you have a theoretically better chance of winning. Also, players should consider their own experience level before making a choice.

Utilize Bonuses and Promotions

One way to make the most of the online casino experience is to take advantage of the various bonuses, promotions, and loyalty programs in Aussie online casinos. These rewards can help players increase their bankroll, allowing them to play for more extended periods of time or even try out new games. By utilizing these programs, players can enhance their gaming experience and potentially increase their chances of winning big.

Manage Your Bankroll

When gambling at an online casino, it is important to manage your finances. To do this, you should set a budget before you start playing and stick to it. This involves deciding how much money you will lose and being ready to quit when you reach that limit. By setting a budget, you can avoid losing more money than you can afford.

Managing your losses is also important. This can help prevent you from trying to win back lost money, which often leads to even greater losses. By being responsible with your finances, you can enjoy gambling without worrying about financial risks.

Practice and Patience

Practicing free games, developing gaming skills, and cultivating patience is crucial to increasing one’s chances of winning in gambling. This approach can help players develop a deeper understanding of the games and their strategies, ultimately improving one’s chances of winning.

Additionally, it is important to prioritize responsible gambling practices to ensure a healthy and sustainable approach to gambling.

Choosing the Right Arc Flash Training Program

0

Guaranteeing the electrical safety of workers in all industries should be a main concern of any company. An arc flash poses a significant risk to both personnel and property.

Therefore, it is crucial for employers to have comprehensive training programs that are proven effective in mitigating such hazards.

But, with many choices, making the right one might be confusing. This article discusses the crucial factors to consider while selecting an arc flash training program relevant to your organization.

Key Factors to Consider

Depth and Breadth of Training Content

The first factor to consider is to audit the coverage of the training material. Evaluate whether the program covers critical topics, including arc flash awareness, electrical safety protocols, hazard analysis, and risk management. Advanced topics like arc flash calculations and emergency response procedures can give you a stronger background on electrical safety practices.

Versatility of Delivery Format, Duration, and Flexibility Options

The other significant aspect is the flexibility of the delivery format. Not all organizations have the same preferences and constraints. Therefore, it is important to choose a program that offers multiple forms of delivery. Alternatives like on-site instructor-led sessions, online courses, video modules, and workshops ensure they are accessible and accommodate diverse learning styles and schedules.

The duration and flexibility of a learning program should also be considered. Organizations may decide whether the program should run in accordance with their operational schedules, allowing participants to complete the modules at their speed or offer multiple sessions.

Accreditation and Recognition

Accreditation and recognition are important when choosing an arc flash training program. Picking a program approved by reliable organizations and recognized within the field indicates that it adheres to accepted standards and industry practices. Awards, endorsements, or accolades from the industry and its associations and regulatory bodies provide additional proof of a program’s excellence and effectiveness.

Instructor Qualifications, Expertise, and Customization Options

Instructor’s qualifications and skills are among the main factors that determine the effectiveness of the training program. Organizations should ensure teaching staff have appropriate qualifications, experience, and proficiency in electrical safety and arc flash mitigation. Instructors should not only be qualified, but more importantly, they must be capable of teaching complex concepts in an interactive and understandable way.

Additionally, customization options are crucial, especially for businesses with distinctive requirements and market-specific features. Selecting instructors ready to individualize programs lets you integrate them with your objectives and improve their applicability and relevance.

Practical Application, Hands-On Training, and Post-Training Support

The key component of a successful arc flash training program is the practical application and hands-on experience. Application of theoretical knowledge in the context of practical exercises, demonstrations, and real-world case studies enables the learners to develop their skills and confidence.

Besides, the post-training support and resources are imperative. Access to extra learning materials, reference resources, and consultation services can provide consistent support and advice, which reinforce the learning outcomes and help address specific challenges that people may face in the working environment.

Summary

Arc flash incidents can cause deadly injuries to employees and even ruin businesses. Providing complete arc flash training is an absolute requirement to guarantee personnel safety and prevent accidents. Course content, delivery format, accreditation, and customization options should be considered when selecting arc flash training programs.

City Council Approves New Plan To Create 25 Urban Toll Roads in South Charlotte

0

As dozens of new apartment complexes continue to rise all around South Charlotte, traffic jams and accidents are becoming an increasingly common occurrence.

At today’s City Council meeting, a controversial new measure was approved in hopes of combating this growing congestion problem – urban toll roads.

Starting on April 1st, 2024, the following ‘free’ roads will become urban toll roads (new toll roads in red):

toll-roads-south-charlotte

The city hopes that by adding tolls to most of the busiest roads in South Charlotte, they will be able to decrease the number of cars on the road and increase public transportation usage.

workers installing new toll lane gates on Providence Rd.
workers installing new toll lane gates on Providence Rd.

Unlike the toll lanes on I-77, the new toll roads in South Charlotte will not offer drivers an option – all drivers must pay – even if they turn on the road by mistake. The average cost to drivers will be $7.04/mile and will be charged through a new automated camera system. The city signed a contract with Spanish road construction company Cymtra to build and manage the tolls after receiving a sizable kick-back.

Cymtra has agreed to pay the city 5% of all revenue generated from the tolls. Charlotte hopes to use the new toll revenue to build several dozen new streetcar lines, primarily to underpopulated areas.

Construction is set to begin on the new toll roads this coming April 1st, 2024 and is expected to be completed by April 1st, 2024 (April Fools Day).

Please note that this article was written for April Fools Day, the city is not actually building toll roads in South Charlotte. The company “Cymtra” does not exist…although it does kinda sounds like another Charlotte-area toll building company…hmmm.

NC State Destroys Duke Devils – Advancing To Final Four For The First Time In 40 Years

0

In a stunning upset, the NC State Wolfpack (11-seed) triumphed over the Duke Blue Devils (4-seed) in the NCAA tournament yesterday, securing their spot in the Final Four for the first time in over four decades.

Despite a slow start and trailing 27-21 at halftime, NC State’s remarkable turnaround in the second half, fueled by Burns and guard DJ Horne, saw them shooting at an impressive 73% and scoring 55 points. The Wolfpack outscored Duke 31-11 during a pivotal 12-minute stretch that made their victory all but certain.

The win not only marks NC State’s first trip to the Final Four since their 1983 NCAA championship but also places them among the lowest-seeded teams to achieve this feat in tournament history.

Despite starting as a preseason No. 2, Duke failed to live up to their ranking and ultimately fell short in the face of NC State’s impressive performance.

NC State’s victory has reignited hopes and dreams for their fans, as they now prepare to write another chapter in their storied basketball legacy at the upcoming Final Four.

Do you think NC State will win the whole thing?

These fires are carefully planned and conducted under specific weather conditions to achieve specific goals. In this way fire can safely be used as a management tool.”
