Spirit Halloween Begins Annual Takeover of Charlotte’s Abandoned Malls

Charlotte is once again preparing for a ghostly transformation as Spirit Halloween begins to emerge in defunct department stores and half-vacant shopping plazas, bringing life—and fright—back to otherwise forgotten corners of our city.

This year, the company expects to open more than 1,500 locations nationwide, including hundreds across the Charlotte region.

In a press release, Spirit Halloween announced plans to hire a record 50,000 seasonal employees across North America, from sales associates to store managers.

“With the anticipation for Halloween at an all-time high, we are committed to creating the same immersive experience that keeps our fans coming back year after year,” said Steven Silverstein, CEO of Spirit Halloween. “The talent and enthusiasm of our associates is the driving force that brings Halloween to life each year, and we look forward to welcoming new and returning faces for another killer season.”

Here in Charlotte, they’ve already posted 32 jobs a full 4 months before Halloween. Confirmed locations in Charlotte include 7233 East Independence Boulevard (next to Super G Mart) and 9320 Center Lake Drive (Northlake Mall) — just two of many empty retail spaces about to be reanimated by Spirit’s seasonal pop-ups.

Anyone interested in joining the invasion can apply at Work4Spirit.com or text “Reaper” to 85000 for more information.

Things You Should Know Before Choosing a St. Louis Car Accident Lawyer

0

Choosing a lawyer after a car accident can seem overwhelming, especially when you are already dealing with stress and injury. You’re not alone; many people feel unsure about where to begin or who to trust, so it is normal to have questions about the process and what factors to think about before making a decision.

In a city like St. Louis, car accident lawyers take on these cases every day, but that doesn’t mean they all handle them the same way. Some may focus on quick settlements, while others take the time to go through the details and fight for a fair outcome. You wouldn’t take an insurance payout without knowing exactly what it covers, so it makes just as much sense to be careful about who represents you. When you’re already dealing with the stress of an accident, the last thing you need is more confusion, so the right St. Louis car accident lawyers should make things clearer, not more confusing, and help you feel ready to move forward.

Check the lawyer’s experience specifically with St. Louis car accident cases

A lawyer who handles car accident cases in St. Louis often understands local laws and court processes. This kind of experience can make a difference in how a case is managed.

It helps to find out how many cases the lawyer has handled in St. Louis. A lawyer who has worked on local cases will likely know the best ways to approach your situation.

They may also be familiar with local judges and other attorneys. This can help when dealing with negotiations or court hearings.

Ask the lawyer about their recent cases in St. Louis. They should be able to share examples that show their role and the results.

Choosing a lawyer with actual experience in St. Louis car accident cases often allows for better support. This can give clients more confidence as their case moves forward.

Review client testimonials and case results online.

Before deciding which lawyer to hire, people should take time to read client testimonials. Honest feedback from past clients helps give a picture of what to expect. Pay attention to patterns—look for comments about communication, honesty, and case outcomes.

Case results posted online can also tell a story about a lawyer’s work. These summaries often show how the lawyer has handled cases in the past. By comparing different outcomes, people can judge a lawyer’s experience with cases like theirs.

It helps to find testimonials that explain both the strengths and any concerns someone had. Reading a mix of reviews gives a better sense of a lawyer’s strengths and areas for improvement. This makes it easier to make an informed decision.

For more guidance, this article from AllLaw explains how to choose a car accident lawyer and what to consider based on the type of accident, location, and legal experience.

Confirm that the attorney offers a free initial consultation.

Before making a decision, it is helpful to check if the attorney provides a free consultation. A free meeting lets the person talk about their accident and ask important questions without worrying about cost.

This first meeting gives both the attorney and the potential client a chance to see if they are a good fit. It also allows the client to share the details of the accident and learn more about the attorney’s process.

Some attorneys may ask for payment up front, while others do not. Knowing if the first consultation is free can help avoid any surprises. Taking time to ask about this helps set clear expectations from the beginning.

A free consultation also lets the person gather information and make a more informed choice. It is a good time to find out how the attorney communicates and how comfortable the client feels working with them.

Guarantee the lawyer has a strong understanding of Missouri personal injury laws.

A car accident lawyer in St. Louis should know Missouri personal injury laws well. These laws affect how claims are handled and what damages are possible.

The lawyer needs to be familiar with rules about fault, deadlines to file a claim, and steps for gathering evidence. Knowing these local rules helps clients avoid mistakes that may hurt their cases.

Personal injury law in Missouri covers many types, from car crashes to slips and falls. The details can change from case to case, so a lawyer should be comfortable dealing with different situations.

Experience with Missouri courts is also useful. It allows the lawyer to spot problems early and explain what to expect at each step.

Before hiring, clients can ask how much experience the lawyer has with Missouri law and recent cases in the area. This helps make the process smoother and less stressful.

Verify the lawyer’s track record of securing fair compensation

Looking at a lawyer’s history in securing fair settlements or verdicts can help people make better choices. Past results give clues about the lawyer’s experience in handling car accident cases. Reviewing successful cases can show if the lawyer has helped others get compensation after a car accident.

It is helpful to search for reviews or client feedback about the lawyer. Sometimes, people share their own stories and mention if their lawyer helped them recover fair amounts. Online tools and legal directories can also help people find this information.

People can ask the lawyer directly about past case results or settlements. Many lawyers will be able to give examples, especially if they have handled cases similar to yours. Comparing these examples can help show if the lawyer often succeeds in getting fair outcomes for their clients.

Conclusion

Finding the right lawyer takes time and research. It helps to look for someone who understands local laws and has experience with similar cases.

A strong track record and good communication can make a big difference. Checking reviews and setting up a consultation are also smart steps.

Making an informed choice gives someone a better chance at fair results after a car accident.

North Carolina Health Department Just Confirmed First Documented Measles Case of 2025

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has confirmed the state’s first measles case of 2025. The infected child, who was visiting Forsyth and Guilford counties, became ill while traveling from a country experiencing active measles outbreaks.

To protect the family’s privacy, health officials are not releasing additional personal details. NCDHHS is working closely with both the Forsyth and Guilford County health departments to determine where and when the public may have been exposed.

Health officials are urging all individuals age one and older to confirm their vaccination status and receive the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine if unvaccinated. The vaccine is considered the best protection against measles, a highly contagious viral illness.

The departments are identifying specific dates and locations of potential exposure. Those who may have visited the listed areas during those times should review their immunization records or consult their healthcare provider.

Measles symptoms may appear between seven and 21 days after exposure and typically include fever and rash. Anyone experiencing symptoms is urged to call their doctor before arriving at a medical facility to reduce the risk of exposing others.

While the recommended timeframe for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) has passed for most, individuals at high risk—including infants, pregnant women, and the immunocompromised—should contact their doctor or local health department to determine if further action is necessary.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation and stress the importance of vaccination to prevent further spread.

Study Shows Charlotte Among Best US Cities to Move to Before Becoming Overcrowded

Charlotte is on top once again!

A recent study by Evernest ranked the top US cities to move to before they become too crowded.

The study analyzed major US cities, using population data and factors such as salary levels, quality of life, and population density to identify the best cities. Cities were ranked based on these key metrics to help identify places where individuals can secure a high standard of living before rapid growth leads to overcrowding.

Metric Value
Monthly Average Net Salary $4,531.42
Quality of Life Index 187.2
Overall “Life Quality” Score 47.1
Population Density 2,963
Composite Score 45.13

A spokesperson from Evernest commented on the study, “Charlotte’s emergence as a top-tier destination reflects its strategic balance of urban amenities and livable spaces. The city’s relatively low population density, combined with competitive salaries and high quality of life metrics, positions it perfectly for sustainable growth. This combination creates an ideal environment for professionals and families looking to establish themselves in a market before it experiences significant population pressure.”

“The data reveals Charlotte’s unique position in the current landscape of growing American cities. With its balanced approach to development, maintaining spacious living conditions while offering strong economic opportunities, the city presents an attractive proposition for those seeking to avoid overcrowded urban centers. The quality of life index particularly stands out, suggesting that residents can enjoy metropolitan amenities without the congestion typically associated with major city centers.”

In total, first responders assessed 20 people—12 children and 8 adults. All injuries were non-life-threatening, and everyone is expected to recover.

Prisma Health said five patients were treated at Parkridge, and 10 more—two adults and eight children—were taken to Prisma Health and its Children’s Hospital. Three children were admitted for further care, while others remain under evaluation.

SC Driver’s Licenses Are Getting a Major Makeover

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles just announced plans to launch a new license and ID card process this fall aimed at boosting security and efficiency.

Starting later this year, applicants will still apply in person at DMV branches but will receive a temporary certificate instead of a permanent card. The finalized, redesigned license or ID will arrive by mail within 7 to 15 business days.

The new cards will feature laser engraving, stronger materials, and South Carolina symbols like the Palmetto Tree and State House. The SCDMV is also centralizing production, joining at least 45 other states using this secure issuance model.

“This change modernizes the way we produce licenses and ID cards to make them more secure and reduce the chance of counterfeiting,” said Kevin Shwedo, Executive Director of the SCDMV in a press release. “First and foremost, these updates will better protect South Carolinians from becoming victims of identity fraud. Additionally, they will provide a more secure and reliable credential for law enforcement, merchants, retailers, and other parties who count on the authenticity of the licenses and identification cards we issue.”

Current licenses remain valid until expiration. The SCDMV advises early renewal to allow for mailing time. More details on the new card features will be released soon.

Early Retirement: Is it the Right Move?

0

Let’s face it, we work for 50 years and then we get a few years of retirement, some more than others, obviously and many employees are presented with the option of early retirement, which is usually a very attractive package. In this short article, we take a closer look at early retirement to help you weigh up the pros and cons.

Enjoy life

Too many people die young and if you are around 55 years old and you are not in love with your career, early retirement is very attractive and you and your partner can visit the many places in the world that you have always dreamed of.  We think that time is a valuable commodity and if you are not in financial trouble at this time, why not take the offer and your supper should be enough to provide?

Crunch the numbers

Do you have an investment portfolio? If so, calculate the benefits and if it is close, things usually work themselves out. Be optimistic and everything will work out, as it always has. If you do need daily help, there are affordable self managed home care packages available from trusted care providers, they can be found with a Google search.

Making plans for the future

Retirement is definitely something to look forward to, not a time to be stressed or anxious and one way to ensure that you will look forward to your retirement is to make plans. This is the perfect time to travel and see all those places in the world that you never managed to see. Talk to your partner about retirement and both of you should make plans; you might have a hobby that you don’t currently have time for, or perhaps you would like to take up a new hobby/sport.

Career goals

If you still have career goals, perhaps early retirement is not the way to go; if you realistically have the time to further your career, then you should strive for that goal. Another important thing to consider is whether or not early retirement is on the table. It could be that your employer does not want to lose you at this time and without any financial incentive, retiring earlier than usual might not be the best way forward.

Discuss things with your partner

There are cases where early retirement can lead to relationship issues; it might be that you make a decision without discussing it with your partner and this can cause a rift between you. Make sure that you both air your views; your partner, for example, might have worries about finances and if that is the case, you need to sit down and be open with each other.

If you make it known to your immediate superior that you might be open to early retirement, he/she might surprise you and tell you that early retirement is possible. Many companies are trying to downsize and part of that can mean offering early retirement to long-standing employees.

How to Set Up a Gaming Room – The Ultimate Guide

0

Online gaming is one of the most popular indoor activities in the Western world, with millions of players who love nothing more than heading for their gaming room for an evening of competitive play. If you have recently moved into a new abode and are planning to use one room for gaming, you have come to the right place, as we present our guide to setting up a room for gaming.

IT Equipment

Let’s start with the IT gear you will need; the heart of your gaming is your desktop PC; it is possible to play on a powerful gaming laptop, but most people play on their desktop PC. A decent quality curved gaming monitor is also required; a unit with a high refresh rate and resolution and most players prefer over the ear headphones rather than speakers because they do not bother others with loud noise. You will also need a gaming keyboard and mouse, wireless solutions are the best, as there are no ugly cable bunches.

Vertical blinds

The best screening is vertical blinds, although any window covering will do, as long as it blocks out all light. Gamers do not typically use lights, the light from the monitor is enough and gaming is better without external lighting.

Large table/desk & gaming chair

A table or desk that is large enough to place the PC, monitor and keyboard and a small filing tray, coupled with a state-of-the-art gaming chair. The chairs can be expensive but a good quality unit will last a lifetime. You can find everything you need at the online supplier and they usually have the best prices for quality brands.

Sound insulation

If you like to play with a high sound volume, order a few foam insulation blocks that stick on the wall. They are very effective at stopping sound from exiting the room, allowing you to enjoy the full benefits of gaming in surround sound!

Internet connection

Of course, nothing less than Broadband will do! Playing high resolution games with people all over the world requires little or no lag and a fibre optic connection gives you perfect playing conditions. While you could hotspot from your smartphone, you are better off with a dedicated landline that you solely use for gaming. If you play online casinos, having a fast Internet is important.

Gaming headset

Of course, you want to be able to communicate in real time when gaming, so a top-rated set of gaming headset with a mic extension gives you a range of audio options. If you live with your family, headphones are preferred, then you can really appreciate the digital sound.

Dim lighting

You don’t need a bright light for a gaming room, a single table lamp is ideal and a few posters on the wall to add some colour. Make sure your electrics are up to standard; a small fire extinguisher might be a good idea.

Decorate the room for good effect and this can be the one place in the home where you can escape the stresses of life and immerse yourself in your favourite online games.

Back-to-Back Shark Bites at Carolina Beaches Raise Summer Safety Concerns

Two shark bites were reported at Hilton Head Island beaches within four days, prompting temporary beach closures and renewed safety warnings.

The latest incident happened Sunday, June 22, in front of a lifeguard stand. According to WTOC, the girl suffered a wound consistent with a shark bite but is expected to recover. On Wednesday, a separate bite occurred at a non-public beach. That victim was airlifted to a hospital and is also expected to recover.

Following Sunday’s incident, authorities cleared swimmers for a half-mile in both directions. The beach reopened two hours later after no additional activity was reported.

Meanwhile, a massive great white shark has surfaced off the North Carolina coast. At nearly 14 feet and 1,600 pounds, “Contender” is the largest great white ever tagged in the Atlantic by research nonprofit OCEARCH.

Tagged in January off Florida, Contender was recently tracked 22 miles off Cape Hatteras. The shark is part of a seasonal migration north in search of cooler waters and prey.

If you plan on swimming near any North or South Carolina beaches, experts recommend taking extra precautions, including removing all shiny jewelry, wearing magnetic shark repellents, and avoiding colorful swimsuits.

Your risk will also increase if you swim at dusk or in the early hours of the night.
