Over 200 Million Eggs Distributed From North Carolina Recalled Due To Salmonella

A total of 206,749,248 chicken eggs that were distributed from North Carolina have just been recalled from Walmart, Food Lion, and other grocery stores due to a possible salmonella contamination.

Infected eggs can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella infection in healthy adults can include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In some circumstances, it can lead to arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis if the organism enters the blood stream.

According to the FDA, “The eggs were distributed from the farm in Hyde County, North Carolina and reached consumers in the following states: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia through retail stores and restaurants via direct delivery.”

The affected eggs come from plant number P-1065 with the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 and include the following brands;

Angry Customer Drives Car Into Mooresville Bar After Being Refused Drinks (Video)

Emergency crews responded to a rather unusual car crash in Mooresville.

At around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, an angry customer drove his car straight into the front of Hotshots Sports Bar and Grill at 247 E. Plaza Drive in Mooresville, according to witnesses.

This video posted by the Iredell Fire Department shows what the scene looked like soon after the crash;

According to Danicka Rogers, the manager on duty at the time of the crash, the man was drunk and seemed upset when he was told he wouldn’t be served any more alcohol.

“I told him I couldn’t serve him any beer, so I gave him a water,” commented Rogers.”He proceeded to flick me off, wreck a table when he walked out,” Rogers said.

Around 20 people were inside the bar at the time. At least one person was taken to the hospital with a cut finger and rib injuries. Other customers and employees suffered minor cuts and abrasions from the glass.

The driver was quickly arrested by Mooresville police.

Police have not yet released the driver’s name or what charges he will be facing.

Young Cancer Survivor Spending 12th Birthday Volunteering At Carolina Charity Hike

Eleven-year- old Will Busby first heard of CureSearch’s Ultimate Hike seven years ago, when his father, Jeff, starting raising funds and training for a 28.3-mile trek to be completed in one day. The family was well aware of the need for funding for children’s cancer research, as four-year- old Will had been diagnosed with high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia on in 2011.

“More funding for research is critical. One in eight children diagnosed with cancer won’t survive, and of those who do, 60% will develop lifelong side effects,” said Brecka Putnam, senior manager of campaign development. “Only four treatments have been developed specifically for children in the past twenty years. We need more treatments for children to improve patient outcomes.”

The Busbys have been actively involved in research since his diagnosis. Will participated in a CureSearch funded clinical to help further research, and Jeff laced up his boots and raised funds through the Ultimate Hike program. Jeff continued hiking and coaching new hikers, and Will continued fighting cancer for years finally the family celebrated his “no more chemo day” on May 6, 2014.

Although Will is officially done fighting cancer, he’s chosen to spend his 12th birthday volunteering at the Carolinas Foothill Trails Ultimate Hike on Saturday, April 28th to show his support for all the kids who are in treatment now. “He now seems to be dealing with the experience in a way that makes it a positive part of his story,” said Jeff Busby.

Volunteering for an Ultimate Hike is no small feat. Jeff will spend the day on the trail, coaching other hikers and setting them up for success. Meanwhile, Will’s day will be spent loading and unloading vans, filling up hikers’ water packs, cleaning, and cheering on hikers. The first volunteers will report for duty before 2:00 a.m., and the last volunteers on the trail could load up as late as 9:00 p.m.

“We’re so excited to have Will spend the day with us. It can be exhausting, and many kids would prefer to spend their birthday hanging out with friends, rather than making sandwiches for 70 people in the middle of the woods. We’re so thankful,” said Putnam. “Having someone that young who beat cancer out there on the trail will give our hikers the motivation they need when the going gets tough.”

In addition to volunteering with CureSearch, Jeff is a chaplain and leader for Will’s trail life troop, he also backpacks with the group once a month, all year round. He is looking forward to introducing Will to a new group of hikers in a few weeks.

One bold new North Carolina restaurant has just started serving up America’s first ‘tarantula burger’ to brave customers.

Durham’s ‘Bull City Burger and Brewery‘ is now cooking up the 8-legged critters in celebration of Exotic Meat Month.

To get your hands on the burger, you’ll have to pasture-raised North Carolina beef, gruyere cheese, an oven-roasted tarantula and spicy chili sauce. You’ll have to go to the restaurant to pick up a raffle ticket, then wait for your number to be drawn and posted on Facebook, Twitter, and our website. If your raffle number is drawn, you can call to arrange a time to return to the restaurant to order your own Tarantula Burger (pasture-raised NC beef burger, gruyere cheese, oven-roasted tarantula, and spicy chili sauce) with Dirty Fries for $30.

According to the restaurant’s website, “If you are able to eat the entire burger you will receive one of our limited edition Tarantula Challenge t-shirts (sizes are limited) and get your picture taken for social media fame and glory.”

Duke Energy About To Build 89 New Water Recreational Projects On The Catawba River

Duke Energy’s massive new $4 million water recreation improvement plan was recently approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Commission required it before they would sign Duke’s 40-year federal hydropower license renewal.

The new improvement plan lists a total of 89 projects along the 225 miles of Duke-controlled Catawba River, including; new picnic facilities, fishing piers, swim beaches, campgrounds, expanded parking, boating access areas, and more (click here to see a detailed list of the improvements).

Some of the biggest local projects will be two new lake access points, one being the Beatties Ford access area on Lake Norman and the other, the Allison Creek access area on Lake Wylie.

There are now talks of bringing an old Charlotte-area nuclear bunker back to life as tensions with Russia continue to worsen.

The massive 60,000 square foot underground bunker sits about 30 miles due East of Charlotte, at 8670 Love Mill Rd., in Stanfield, NC;

It’s divided into a total of four floors at one end of the building, and two floors at the other, and includes; a kitchen, bathrooms, showers, a 12,000 gallon water tank, central air conditioning, and pretty much anything else you’d need to sustain 90 people for 90 days during a nuclear attack.

Talks of renovating and recommissioning the old bunker have been increasing as tensions ramp up between the United States and Russia, especially in relation to Syria.

Russian’s state-owned television station, VGTRK, has even started urging its citizens to start buying water, army rations, and other survival supplies because Russia could go to war with the United States any day now.

Here’s just one of the recent telecasts where government-sponsored VGTRK reporters tell citizens to begin preparing for nuclear war;

The above show aired a day after sources told Newsweek that “there is a major war scare” in Moscow, as the US prepares to strike Syria in retaliation for the use of chemical weapons. The Trump administration has stated that it believes Syria’s Russian-backed President Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the attacks, and it plans to ensure that Assad pays the price. Russian officials have responded by saying that Moscow would meet fire with fire.

“If there is a strike by the Americans, then the missiles will be downed and even the sources from which the missiles were fired,” warned Alexander Zasypkin, Russia’s ambassador to Lebanon, during an interview this past Tuesday.

Yesterday morning, the President of The United States released a statement saying;

“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming…”

If the old bunker in Stanfield is reactivated, it’s unclear at this point who might be chosen to be one of its 90 occupants.

Tractor-Trailer Explosion Caused Major Backups On I-77

This morning a tractor-trailer burst into flames after veering off the road on I-77 southbound, causing major traffic delays.

The accident in northern Mecklenburg County occurred at around 4:30am and required the assistance of multiple fire departments.

The Huntersville Fire tweeted a series of tweets between roughly 4:45am and 6am with a full progression of events at the scene;

Here’s a video showing the tractor trailer after the fire was put out;

All lanes reopend at around 8:30am this morning.

According to authories, the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Next weekend, a unique artist will be constructing a giant inflatable igloo in the heart of Plaza Midwood where he will immerse large crowds in a ‘dream-like three-dimensional sonic environment’.

As a musician with over 12 years of engineering experience, Tom Montagliano combines his experimental and whimsical writing style along with his passion for developing technology to create ambient, psychedelic soundscapes for multiple speaker arrays.

“I’ll be playing a series of psychedelic, ambient electronic pieces that I composed. They are all weaved together in a dream-like fashion so that each piece slowly fades into the next. Each one has a different spatial concept and creates an environment that corresponds to the LEDs that illuminate the entire igloo. Super chill vibes,” commented Montagliano commented.

Massive Sinkhole Shuts Down Independence Blvd During Rush Hour

Yesterday afternoon a massive sinkhole formed on Independence Blvd., flooding the entire street and shutting down all outbound lanes during one of the busiest times of the day.

The water main break and subsequent sinkhole was formed under the right-hand outbound lane of Independence Blvd., near Village Lake Drive in SouthEast Charlotte;

For most of yesterday evening, outbound lanes were completely shut down by Charlotte Water crews as they worked to fix the busted line;

This is what the sinkhole looked like after crews dug around it;

Charlotte Water has now reported that all but 1 outbound lane will remain shut down until tonight as crews continue to work on the sinkhole;
