Gaston County Man Charged in Major Embezzlement Case at Local Church

1981

28-year-old Jordan Blake Shortridge has just been arrested and charged with felony larceny after embezzling over $470,000 from Gaston County’s Dallas Church of God.

The Dallas Police Department became involved after church officials reported suspicions of embezzlement in July. An internal review by the church’s accounting department in 2021 had initially uncovered financial discrepancies. This review led to a more thorough audit, revealing unexplained withdrawals and payments made through PayPal.

Following the church’s report to the authorities, the police initiated an investigation. During this process, detectives identified Shortridge as the primary suspect and quickly arrested him.

The Dallas Church of God’s website had previously listed Pastor D.R. Shortridge and his wife, Karen, as ministry leaders. Jordan Shortridge, identified as the pastor’s grandson, was noted to be actively involved in the church, contributing in roles such as playing the drums and working in the audio/visual department.
