Isaias Expected To Strengthen Into Hurricane Before Making Landfall in The Carolinas

Tropical Storm Isaias is now expected to become Hurricane Isaias before making landfall in the Carolinas.

The National Hurricane Center just released the following update on the storm:

Data from the reconnaissance aircraft and NOAA Doppler weather 
radars indicate that maximum sustained winds remain near 70 mph 
(110 km/h) with higher gusts.  Some strengthening is forecast this 
afternoon, and Isaias is expected to regain hurricane strength just 
before it reaches the coast of northeastern South Carolina or 
southern North Carolina tonight. Only slow weakening is anticipated 
after Isaias makes landfall in the Carolinas and moves across the 
U.S. mid-Atlantic region tonight and Tuesday.

Governor Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency for North Carolina ahead of Hurricane Isaias’ expected landfall, saying that our state is already seeing extremely high risk of deadly rip currents all along the coast.

“A hurricane during a pandemic is double trouble, but the state has been carefully preparing for this scenario so we can do our best to keep people safe from the weather, as well as the virus,” the governer said in the briefing.

“Although the track and arrival of the hurricane could still change, now is the time for North Carolinians to prepare,” said Governor Cooper. “Hurricane preparations will be different given the COVID-19 pandemic, and families need to keep that in mind as they get ready.”

Police Shooting Leaves 1 Person Dead In Mooresville This Morning

A person died this morning after a Mooresville Police officer fired his gun during a domestic incident.

According to the Mooresville Police Department, officers responded to a domestic call at a home on Heritage Place, just south of downtown Mooresville at about 1:30 am this morning.

The name of the victim and the name of the officer who fired his weapon have not yet been released.

The State Bureau of Inestigation (SBI) is now investigating the incident.

Concord Police Asking For Help In Finding Armed Car-Jacking Suspect (Video)

The Concord Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying and finding a car-jacking suspect who attacked a driver at gunpoint, then dragged her behind her car as he escaped in the stolen vehicle.

The incident occurred on July 25, 2020 at the Circle K located at 8501 Concord Mills Blvd.

According to the official police report, “the suspect exited a stolen red Hyundai Santa Fe, forced the victim out of her vehicle at gunpoint, and drug her a short distance, resulting in minor injuries to the victim. Concord Police located the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it when the suspect fled. The vehicle pursuit continued until the suspect lost control and crashed into another vehicle in Charlotte, where the suspect fled on foot from the scene of the accident. While Concord Police continues to work to locate the suspect shown below, the department has identified and issued six secure custody orders on the suspect’s accomplices in this case.”

To shed some light on where people can get quality, affordable care during the current crisis, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2020’s Best & Worst States for Health Care.

In order to determine where Americans receive the highest-quality services at the best prices, the site compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 44 key measures of health care cost, accessibility and outcome. The data set ranges from average monthly insurance premium to physicians per capita to share of insured population.

When people think of bed bugs, they imagine that they come from dirty houses or from people that don’t take care of things. The reality is that they can be found even in four star hotels in NYC just as easily as in Charlotte. 

In this article, I will go over just what it means to have bed bugs and what you can do to get rid of them. 

Yes, they bite

Unfortunately, bed bugs are not little harmless critters that you just would rather not have around even though they don’t do anything. The reality is that they do actually bite. And those bites may not be noticed at first, but eventually they will itch.

In fact, many times they will be mistaken for mosquito bites. If you don’t see any other sign of infestation, then you probably think they are from a mosquito. According to Pest Control Atlanta, you’ll often see these bites in clusters unlike mosquito bites. And if you are sleeping under the covers then you may wonder how you got bitten in certain areas to begin with.

Which means you need to look for other signs that you have bed bugs.

Check for other signs

If you are being bitten on an area that is protected by your blankets and can’t be from mosquitos, then you should be seeing little drops of blood on your sheets. You may also see some rust colored small streaks that are from the bed bug excrement on your sheets. If you see it under the sheets, then you may have them living in your mattress.

Pillows also need to be washed and anything else that was on the bed at any time. If your child’s bed has bed bugs then any stuffed animal or toy that could have been infected also needs to be washed thoroughly.

Now your box spring and mattress need to be dealt with. They will both need to be encased so the bed bugs starve and also run out of air to breath. There are special encasement sheets for just this purpose that can be left on the bed so you can still sleep on it without getting bitten by the bigs. Also, if you decide to get a new mattress, then this sheet can keep the bed bugs out so you don’t have the new mattress get infested either. You may think they’re gone but it only takes two to reinfest your room again.

Lastly, put some traps at the base of the legs of the beds. This will keep any remaining bugs from getting back into bed with you so you don’t have to deal with them anymore. If they can’t bite, then they can’t live and will eventually die off.

This is a process so be prepared for this to take some time before they are truly gone.

Charlotte Music Community Relief Fund Aims to Help the Charlotte Music Scene Survive and Thrive

Music Everywhere CLT in partnership with FAIR PLAY Music Equity Initiative and Tosco Music, are excited to announce the expansion of the Charlotte Music Community Relief Fund. This grant program was designed to help members of the Charlotte music community, with an emphasis on independent performing or recording artists, with loss of income due to COVID-19. Now, with the help of United Way/Foundation For the Carolinas Covid 19 Response Fund and a successful community campaign, additional grantmaking capacity is available.

The Fund was launched on April 29 with an initial contribution from Music Everywhere CLT, supported by AvidXchange. Since then, a public campaign, with great support from Tosco Music and its supporters, has raised more than $29,000 and the UW/FFTC COVID-19 Response Fund contributed $40,000. As of July 20, #CLTMusicFund has made 79 grants totaling $39,500.

“We’re glad these funds will help support members of the Charlotte music community through COVID-19 as they creatively innovate our way out into an even stronger music city,” says David “Dae Lee” Arrington of FAIR PLAY Music Equity Initiative.

“When we launched this fund with our partners, we were responding to an immediate and urgent need,” says Rick Thurmond of Music Everywhere CLT and Charlotte Center City Partners. “Now, three months later, it’s clear that the music economy will be challenged for some time. We hope that everyone in the music community is aware of this fund, and if you’re in need of a boost, consider applying.”

Music Everywhere CLT’s 2018 study showed that most people in Charlotte’s music community make less than $10,000 a year from music. During these challenging times, the Fund is intended to support local musicians, sound engineers, producers, songwriters, crew, music photographers and help pay a few bills. “The entire Music Everywhere CLT team hopes this fund helps keep the local music scene whole,” says Thurmond. “We hope it lets members of our music community know that Charlotte cares and values their contributions to our city. We hope it encourages them to stick around, stick with us, and stick with it.”

NC State Fair Officially Cancels For The First Time in Almost 100 Years

Officials with the North Carolina State Fair have announced they will be canceling the massive event for the first time in almost 100 years (the last cancellation was due to World War II).

“I can think of a thousand places I’d rather be today than here delivering this news,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler in a press release. “The State Fair is a tradition we all look forward to each year. It’s a vital economic engine for local non-profits, community groups, small businesses and individuals. It’s a time for family and friends to come together to celebrate everything that makes North Carolina such a great place to live. We waited as long as we could, hoping the numbers would take a turn and we’d be able to continue with our planning, but each day brought more challenges than solutions.”

The decision to cancel this year’s fair was based on the following:
• safety and health of visitors, vendors, competitors and staff,
• current COVID-19 statistics in the state,
• North Carolina’s pause in Phase II of reopening thus limiting the size of gatherings,
• contracts that cannot be cancelled at the last minute without a financial impact on the N.C. State Fair and the vendor,
• and the long-term financial health of the N.C. State Fair

The fair has now been rescheduled for next October 14-24th.
