After fringe groups like the Human Rights Campaign, EqualityNC, and Meck PAC invested large quantities of cash securing many seats on the Charlotte City Council, including the Mayor, they are making a second play at trying to secure Bathroom Bill legislation for the city of Charlotte. If passed, this would allow men to enter women’s bathrooms and locker rooms at any time, for any reason. The Charlotte City Council is hosting a “forum” tonight to present the various sides on the upcoming Bathroom Bill mandate. The #DontDoItCharlotte coalition has surpassed 2,000 signatures on their online petition at www.DontDoItCharlotte.com, urging the Charlotte City Council to vote down this measure for the second year in a row.
There are several problems with this attempted “forum.” For starters, the room hosting the event was selected due to extreme limits in size to prevent members of the public from being able to participate. Secondly, there will be no public debate. A hired and pre-prepped acting squad has been coached to act out the various “sides” of the Bathroom Bill. This yields the way for a skewed presentation of the facts, and takes the voice away from the people of Charlotte.

Students from Piedmont Middle school, and the Myers Park High School National Honors Art Society have been working for months to paint Skateboard decks, paintings, and other works of art to auction off this weekend. (Check out their Facebook page for tons more pictures)
The event will continue to support Gabe Ospina and Luke Rainwater who were both born with spina bifida, and this year they will be adding the Sarich family – this incredible family has already adopted several children from around the world with special needs.
Taras Sarich is a single mom who has taken it upon herself to help children in need in the most unbelievable way. Her newest adoptee is about to come from China, with numerous leg and hand deformities that will need to be corrected.
This year, the Ospina family, the Rainwater family, and the Sarich family will each receive 1/3 of all the money collected to help with their medical expenses.
The event this weekend event will feature food from Matt Hughes (Fat and Chili Catering) and Jonathan Farnham (Jon Farnham Catering), DJ Festivus with incredible music and DGing skills. Over 100 (expected) pieces of art to be (silent) auctioned off to the highest bidder. A live auction will starts at 3:45pm to auction off some of the bigger pieces, including an autographed and painted skate deck of Cam Newton, and an signed painting of Luke Kuechly.
There will also be a local artisan vendor village, and a massive raffle with hundreds of prizes, as well as on-site live art by John “Frogboy” Burgin – and tons more.
It will be held at the Unknown Brewery – 1327 S Mint St, Charlotte, North Carolina 28203 on Saturday, January 30th from 1pm – 7pm

A major new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is now in the works for the Charlotte region.
The Catawba Indian Nation is now working with Hard Rock International of Orlando, Fla., to plan an unprecedented new $600 million casino in Kings Mountain, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
The Catawba’s Chief, Bill Harris, and many other leaders have long considered the Hard Rock International the “gold standard” for casinos, so they are willing to throw their whole support behind the plans.
The company now owns and operates casino complexes on Native American land in Florida (Tampa and Hollywood) through a partnership with the Seminole tribe.
The next step will be final approval from the U.S. Department of the Interior that will determine whether the tribe will be able to open the proposed casino off Interstate 85.
The Catawba Indian Reservation, in partnership with South Carolina and several investors, are also now planning to build a $350 million film and production studio just to the south of Charlotte.

The Panthers just beat the Seahawks and Cardinals to advance to the biggest game in America – Superbowl 50 – the second time in history the Panthers made to the ship.
The big game will be played in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California (about an hour south of San Francisco) on February 7th. Tickets for the game are now priced from $3,000 (zone P) to $18,000 (50 yard line) on TicketNetwork.com – one of the biggest ticket re-sellers in the world.
Many of the tickets now being resold are coming from the Boston area, since about 14% of all the Superbowl 50 tickets were purchased in anticipation of the Patriots beating the Broncos yesterday.
Ticket analysts are predicting that this year’s prices will continue to rise, and are expected to reach well over $6,000 for the lowest priced seats over the next few days. Silicon Valley’s money is thought to be one of the biggest factors in driving up prices this year.

The entire state of North Carolina has just declared a state of emergency in anticipation of tomorrow’s crippling ice and snow storm. The Charlotte region will be hit especially hard with an expected half-inch of ice coming in the morning hours – more than enough to bring down tree limbs and power lines.
Gov. Pat McCrory officially announced the state of emergency this morning saying “We hope they’re wrong, if they’re not wrong, we are going to be prepared.”
The state of emergency will remain in effect for nearly the entire Charlotte region until 7 p.m. on Saturday.
NC Transportation officials are warning people to stay off the roads, even if they have tire chains – other drivers may not be as prepared.
Charlotte DOT crews have been flooding most city streets with salt brine today and will continue to do so throughout the weekend. The city plans on sending out 32 trucks, 64 street maintenance crew members and necessary support staff in 12-hour shifts from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Rain, sleet, and snow is expected to start falling tonight, and begin to taper off on Saturday morning.
A low of 30 degrees is forecast for both early Friday and early Saturday and 26 early Sunday and early Monday.
The state of emergency has also caused tomorrow’s Panthers Pride rally to be canceled.
The NC mountains are going to get hit even worse with up to 17 inches are expected in Boone, 13 inches in Asheville, and 13 inches in Hickory through early Saturday.
