Yesterday the Carolina Panthers took down the Atlanta Falcons in their 6th win of the season.
Things got a little dicey in the first 2 quarters, with the Falcons up 10-0 half-way through the second quarter, but in true cardiac cat fashion, the Panthers put together an impressive comeback.
2 15-yard penalties and Cam’s 24-yard pass to Funchess led to running back Christian McCaffrey’s first rushing touchdown of the season at the end of the second quarter.
On the next drive, Safety Mike Adams intercepted Matt Ryan and gave Cam the opportunity to score his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.
We added to our lead in the third quarter with 2 field goals from Graham Gano, putting the score at 20-10.
The Panthers improve their record to 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the division – closer than ever to overtaking this season’s NFC South-leading New Orleans Saints.
The Panther’s will host the Dolphins next Monday night (Nov. 13th) in prime-time football.
Sonic Automotive’s new millennial-focused used car dealership, ‘EchoPark’, just closed on a 10-acre piece of land off Independence Blvd. at Charlotte’s former Coliseum Center, according to the register of deeds.
We first reported on the new dealership back in August when they were named as the anchor tenant of the newly branded ‘Coliseum Crossing’ devleopment.
Sonic’s new Echopark location will feature a massive pre-owned car lot, offices, interior showroom, repair facility, and state-of-the-art customer service center.
The remaining 8 acres of Coliseum Crossing will be developed into over 59,000 square feet of retail space and would connect to the neighboring Walmart.
One of the cutest ring-bearer processions of all time is now going viral after a driver fell asleep at the wheel.
During his Paris-themed wedding at Champagne Manor in Monroe, NC, David Pierce dressed his 9-month-old son as a French chauffeur and put him in a tiny RC car to drive the rings down the aisle. Apparently, the car was comfier than he realized.
After the video went viral online, it was featured on Kelly & Ryan and Good Morning America;

Even though Charlotte’s restaurant selection continues to grow, so does our population, and some restaurants are taking advantage of this growing customer base by letting their health standards slide.
Some of the most common reasons for low scores were food handlers not washing their hands properly, contaminated food containers, and improper food temperatures (many restaurants are starting to use infrared thermometers to avoid this). You can see exactly what the inspectors look for on this blank copy of an inspection report.
These are the top 10 worst currently standing inspection scores in Mecklenburg County (some restaurants scored lower in October but were reinspected with higher scores before November 4th):

Leading Fire Extinguisher maker Kidde has just issued a massive recall on all of their fire extinguishers with plastic handles due to failure to discharge and nozzle detachment.
According to the official recall, “The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency.In addition, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.”
There have been nearly 400 reports of extinguishers malfunctioning resulting in 16 injuries and one death over the past few years.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall covers nearly 40 million Kidde extinguishers in 134 different models that were manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017, including models that were previously recalled in March 2009 and February 2015. The extinguishers were sold in red, white and silver, and are either ABC- or BC-rated (you can see the full list of recalled model numbers here).
The Bojangles franchise is about to test a new delivery service around the Charlotte area.
The CEO told investors during this past week’s conference call that the company had “a challenging fiscal quarter” and would be testing delivery in 10 restaurants to help counter the sales declines. The goal of the new service would be to expand their customer base to reach more college students, hospital workers, and home offices, without taking away from in-store sales.
“If that’s incremental sales, then great, if that’s at nighttime and it’s something that we wouldn’t have got,” said Chief Executive Officer Clifton Rutledge. “But what would kill us is that if that same customer would be coming through our drive thru, that we’re now taking away from that, then that just doesn’t work. That puts you upside down on that.”
They decided to launch the new concept in Charlotte since we’re the home of their headquarters and since we have some of the best brand loyalty in the country.
“We believe conducting the test here in our hometown, a significant market for our brand and close to our support center, is important as we evaluate the results of the test,” said Chief Executive Officer Clifton Rutledge.
“Again, this will be a limited test focusing on gathering data and real-world learnings to help make the best informed decisions regarding future efforts towards delivery.”
They do currently have delivery options in Charlotte through several third-party services, including Postmates, Doordash and GrubHub, but these companies only reach about 13% of Bojangles stores nationwide.
Bojangles first started in Charlotte in 1977 and have since expanded to over 700 locations up and down the East Coast.
They plan to start testing their new delivery service by the end of this year or early next year.
They weren’t willing to say how much they offered in financial incentives, or exactly which sites were purposed, but they did say the bid included a total of 21 proposed sites in various locations around Mecklenburg, York, Gaston, Cabarrus, Iredell and Rowan counties.
It also contained personal letters from 40 leading organizations in Charlotte, including from Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan and our former BofA CEO Hugh McColl Jr.
Along with all the paperwork, they sent this 5-minute-long video featuring spoken word by former news anchor and Hornets co-host Jacinda Jacobs and artists Carlos Robson and Boris “Bluz” Rogers;
The bid was sent in a custom laser-engraved wooden box, built by Charlotte’s Musser and Co., bubble wrap provided by Charlotte’s Sealed Air, and photography provided by Charlotte’s own Kent Smith;

“Albemarle Corporation is a global leader and has made the right decision to expand in North Carolina,” said North Carolina Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland. “I know Albemarle Corporation will continue to succeed with this expansion in Cleveland County.”
They company currently holds leading positions in lithium, bromine and refining catalysts, and they produce dozens of products to power critical industries, from energy and communications, to transportation and electronics.
“North Carolina continues to be a leader in the chemical science industry because of our world-class workforce,” said Governor Cooper. “Albemarle Corporation’s decision to expand in North Carolina bolsters this thriving industry in our state.”
The expansion will be facilitated, in part, by a JDIG (Job Development Investment Grant), which was approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee yesterday. Over the term of the 5-year grant, it’s estimated that the project will grow the state’s economy by at least $390 million. Another recent JDIG was also a major catalyst for Amazon’s recent decision to build a new distribution facility in Kannapolis.
