Charlotte’s MillBridge Honored as 2019 Community of the Year

0

MillBridge, a residential master-planned community by Landeavor, has been named the 2019 Community of the Year by the Home Builders Association of Greater Charlotte. The recognition was announced at the Association’s Major Achievement in Market Excellence (MAME) Awards on Thursday evening.

“We continue to receive some of the highest accolades in our industry for MillBridge,” states Adam Lorry, principal and co-owner of Landeavor. “I attribute its success as one of the top communities in all of the southeast to the vision and strategic plan developed years ago following our purchase of the community.” Landeavor purchased MillBridge in 2011 and, during its tenure, has recorded over 700 new home sales. MillBridge topped the Charlotte market in single-family home sales in 2018 according to findings by Metrostudy.

“We have received several awards for our community in the past, which is why it’s so rewarding to be recognized for the strengths that allow us to provide a unique small-town feel for our residents,” states MillBridge Marketing Manager, Kelley Archer. “Given the booming and competitive market in and around Charlotte, this award really says a lot about our community here in Waxhaw.”

Through the MAME Awards program, the Home Builders Association of Greater Charlotte honors builders, developers, remodelers and associates who have made a significant and creative contribution in residential marketing. This marks the second time in three years that MillBridge has been selected as Community of the Year by the Association (2017 and 2019, the award cannot be received by the same community in consecutive years). Due to its array of resort-like amenities including its pool pavilion, full coffee bar and movie theater, MillBridge was presented the Community Amenity Package of the Year award in 2014 and 2016 as well. MillBridge was also recognized for Best Community Signage at this year’s award ceremony.

The album spawned one of the band’s biggest hits of all time, “La Grange,” and it established ZZ Top as an exciting new band in the blues-rock realm. Throughout the rest of the 1970s, ZZ Top achieved one success after another and became one of the biggest acts in mainstream rock.

aikido-of-charlotte

I come from a long line of nervous people who think about how to protect themselves in almost every situation, real or imagined. From an early age, I have been taught to be aware of my surroundings. I think about escape routes; I carry pepper spray and a Maglite flashlight. I took a self defense class a long time ago, and after doing the research for this story, I see a refresher course in my near future.

There are several companies in the community offering one-time and on-going self defense classes. In addition to America’s best beer shop, the Glunts recently launched their own brewery upstairs (Salud Cerveceria) and an in-house pizza kitchen.

Charlotte’s 10 Worst Restaurant Health Scores In March 2019

0

Even though the Charlotte region’s restaurant selection continues to grow, so does our population, and some restaurants are taking advantage of this growing customer base by letting their health standards slide.

Some of the most common reasons for low scores were food handlers not washing their hands properly, contaminated food containers, and improper food temperatures (many restaurants are starting to use infrared thermometers to avoid this). Fisher-Price Issues Warning About Their Infant Sleepers After 10 Deaths Reported

0

A national warning has just been sent out by the US Consumer Safety Commission after at least 10 deaths have been reported from using Fisher-Price’s Rock ‘n Play infant sleeper device.

They sent out a statement yesterday noting that they are “aware of 10 infant deaths in the Rock ‘n Play that have occurred since 2015, after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side, while unrestrained.”

They recommend consumers stop using the product after their children turn 3 months old, or “as soon as an infant exhibits rollover capabilities”.

Fisher-Price’s general manager Chuck Scothon issued a statement this past Friday, stating that the Rock ‘n Play meets all “applicable safety standards”, and added that “Fisher-Price and every one of our employees take the responsibility of being part of your family seriously, and we are committed to earning that trust every day”.
As of April 6th, the Rock ‘n Play sleepers are still being sold online.

NC Wildlife Commission Opening Hatchery-Stocked Trout Waters Today at 7am

0

This morning at 7am, The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is officially opening over 900 miles of Hatchery-stocked Trout Waters.

North Carolina anglers now have a limited window to harvest up to 7 trout per day every day with no minimum sizes and no restrictions to bait they can use.

The Commission has also posted the full Hatchery-Supported Trout Waters stocking schedule to inform anglers which days each body of water is being stocked with fresh trout.

In the coming months, NC Wildlife staff plan to stock nearly 930,000 trout — most being at least 10 inches in length, and about 4% being over 14 inches in length. The trout will come from 2 massive hatcheries in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This limited season on publicly-stocked waters will run through Feb. 29, 2020.

To see a complete list of all Hatchery Supported Trout Waters and trout maps, you can go to the Commission’s trout fishing page here.
