1936_hitting-bays-night-topgolf-centennial-01A few days after Charlotte’s newest slave cemetery was discovered on the site of Topgolf’s second Charlotte location, the company told us that they’ve now decided to put the project on hold.

Morgan Wallace, the Senior Communications Specialist with Topgolf noted, “We remain excited about Topgolf’s potential to expand to the north Charlotte area, but we have decided to put on hold our plans for a location on West Mallard Creek Church Road. To ensure we choose the best possible site for the community and our business, we want to carefully explore all options available. In the meantime, we appreciate the city’s support and look forward to creating great times for our Guests at the recently opened Topgolf Charlotte venue.”

After an incredibly successful launch of Topgolf’s first Charlotte location, investors were trying to bring a second location to a new mixed-use development at the corner of I-85 and Mallard Creek Rd.

Trouble began the moment a re-zoning petition was submitted to the city. Residents of the surrounding neighborhoods created online petitions, and even took to the streets to picket, saying the new Topgolf location would create too much traffic and noise.

Topgolf hasn’t yet told us what other locations they are considering.
