Faith, Hope and Love Ministries in Gastonia is once again facing steep fines for supporting the homeless amid severe cold weather.

Led by Pastor Moses Colbert, the church, previously embroiled in a legal dispute with the City of Gastonia over a homeless encampment last summer, continues its mission to aid the homeless by providing food, showers, and laundry facilities.

In response to the recent freezing temperatures, Pastor Moses began opening the church earlier than usual to offer additional support. This decision, however, has met with some resistance.

Last year, the church hosted a homeless encampment on its grounds, where many people slept in tents. This encampment was closed in September following a lawsuit by the City of Gastonia, citing violations of city and zoning ordinances. The church eventually agreed to dismantle the encampment, avoiding over $100k in city fines.

This week’s extension of operating hours by the church led to a letter from the Gastonia Fire Marshall, indicating that the church was effectively operating an emergency shelter.

The Salvation Army in Gastonia does provide overnight shelter but requires individuals to leave by 6 am – Faith, Hope and Love Ministries wants to help people stay warm while it’s still freezing in the morning after 6am.

Approved in low doses in some countries, tianeptine is often misused in the US as a perceived safe alternative to opioids like fentanyl or heroin. Found in products like Tianaa, Zaza, and Pegasus, tianeptine at high doses mimics opioid effects, leading to misuse and addiction.

The drug’s unregulated production often results in it being mixed with dangerous substances like synthetic cannabinoids, leading to varied and severe overdose symptoms. The City of Concord just approved a massive new $125 million industrial complex between Charlotte and Concord to be named ‘Concord Commerce Park’.

The Fortius Capital Partners project is estimated to be worth up to $125 million and will add approximately 1.3 million square feet of industrial space to our region.

The new industrial megasite will be built just off the Concord Pkwy (29) just north of Harrisburg.

According to the Charlotte Business Journal, the new project would include a total of nine industrial buildings, ranging from 84,000 to 250,000 square feet, to be completed between 2024 and 2028.

The city has sanctioned a five-year incentives grant for the project, potentially worth $2.55 million, based on the total investment. The development also includes $11.2 million in public infrastructure upgrades, including new roads and utilities around the sprawling complex.

Spanning 4,500 square feet, the restaurant provides a visually pleasing setting accentuated by a custom mural from Charlotte-based artist Jen Hill and lush plants by Kristine Brockman of Charlotte Plantscapes. The vibrant atmosphere, fueled by music, laughter and conversation, invites guests to enjoy expansive indoor and outdoor seating for up to 292 people.
