Charlotte’s district supervisor for Home Depot has just announced a major new wave of hiring in 13 stores throughout the region.
Due to the incredible growth of the area, Home Depot is expecting a huge Spring season and is now hiring about 450 new employees. Hiring has already started and will continue through early summer 2016.
They will be hiring all types of positions, from management to temporary employees.

David Abraham Duren Jr. has just been sent to prison for life after stealing $900 worth of cigarettes. He declined to receive a free public defender and instead chose to act as his own attorney for his entire court case.
His life sentence was the result of South Carolina’s ‘Three-Strike Law”, which basically gives a judge the ability to send a person to life in prison after they have been convicted of at least 3 ‘serious crimes’.
Prosecutors offered him a a plea deal of 15 years in jail, but Finney chose to reject the deal and plead not guilty in court.
He was convicted fairly easily through linking his DNA with blood found in the convenient store freezer where the cigarettes were stolen.

The primary elections for North Carolina are on March 15th and early voting just started yesterday. Donald Trump is now scrambling to build support in the Tar Heel state. He just scheduled a last-minute rally this coming Monday night in Concord, according to his website.
It will be his first of two rallies he now will be doing in North Carolina before the election – the second one will be in Fayetteville on Wednesday night.
Monday night’s rally will take place at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center, 4751 N.C. 49, Concord. Police and secret service will be shutting down the entire section of the city throughout the morning. Doors will open to the public at 9 am. Early voting in North Carolina just started yesterday, and tomorrow, the Trump campaign will even start passing out bumper stickers in Raleigh to announce his new headquarters at 809 Spring Forest Road, Suite 100.

TTI Floor Care (parent company of Hoover, Dirt Devil, and Oreck) is about to build a revolutionary high-tech innovation center in Charlotte, Gov. Pat McCrory just announced this week.
They will be investing $5 million in the new state-of-the-art research and marketing facility, and looking to hire at least 200 new employees with an average starting salary of $104k, plus benefits. This is certainly welcome news in a city that has an average annual salary of about $60,000 per person.
A large reason for their decision was undoubtedly the massive state grant they will be receiving. They’ve already been approved for up to $3.7 million from the state’s Job Development Investment Grant program.
“North Carolina, and specifically the Charlotte metro region, is a prime location for consumer-products companies like TTI Floor Care to be successful,” the governor said in this week’s press release.

For the sixth straight year, the U.S. National Whitewater Center will be hosting its now famous “Green River Revival”. Bringing Ireland to the Queen City, the festivities kick of the festivities at the Color Me Green 5k, where participants will need the luck of the Irish to avoid the green dye as they run through the trails. The massive hotel that was originally planned to be built as part of the original Epicenter development is now under construction.
For years, naked i-beams and wires protruded from the top of the Epicenter, an eye sore for anyone on the upper levels of the complex. The original hotel was brought to a halt after the developer ran out of money and entered into a lengthy legal battle.
In the lawsuit, Mount Vernon and accused Vision Ventures of fraud and engaging in a scheme to “squeeze out” Mount Vernon from its minority interest in the Epicenter’s air rights and the 263 parking spaces for the planned hotel.
The CFO for development firm Citisculpt commented that the suit was settled last week but he did not release any further details.
Cleveland Construction has been selected to finish the project. The new designs include a suite-style luxury 116-room Residence Inn on top of the tower, and a 184-room AC Hotel on the lower section – both are brands of Marriott International.

Governor Nikki “Hailey” and Donald Trump engaged in a minor Twitter battle this week after the governor showed her continued support for Rubio.
Haley was quoted as saying that as an accountant, she knows there is nothing in an audit that precludes someone from releasing a tax return — a defense Trump has used to turn back pressure to disclose his own tax documents.
“Donald Trump, show us your tax return,” Haley told the crowd at this week’s Rubio rally.
Trump then tweeted yesterday afternoon “The people of South Carolina are embarrassed by Nikki Hailey!” (misspelling the governor’s last name).
Trump’s advisers then quickly deleted the Tweet and replaced it with the correct spelling;
Then about 1 hour later, Governor Nikki Haley tweeted this;

Starting on March 1st, 2016, North Carolina residents will be paying more for auto and home repairs thanks to a new state tax law that just went into effect.
The new law is part of a major tax code overhaul that was recently passed by state lawmakers.
Based on their county sales tax rate, consumers will now be paying the same percentage for the new ‘labor tax’ on services like car repairs and home repairs (including roofing, painting, carpet installation, and appliance repairs).
North Carolina’s sales tax rates range from 6.75 percent to 7.5 percent and vary by county, meaning that a car repair that includes $200 in labor fees will cost up to $15 more starting today.
Many Charlotte area auto repair shops are now worried that customers will start heading across the state line to save money on a labor tax for pricey repairs (especially since many drivers are already crossing the state line to get cheaper gas). Some drivers have started buying their motor oil online, saying that they will now be changing it at home.
State lawmakers added the new service tax so they could lower certain income and corporate taxes, in addition to helping poor schools throughout the state. About $84.8 million in new revenue will be divided among 79 suburban and rural counties for schools, community colleges and economic development projects.
