In less than a year, one of Charlotte’s newest dentist offices has managed to land itself on Elevate Lifestyle Magazine’s “Best of The City” list. They also have a perfect 5 star rating on Yelp – an incredible feat considering how much most people hate the dentist.

Dr. Seti Byrd and her team at Skyview Dentistry started from the ground up in attempting to make every possible aspect of a trip to the dentist enjoyable and relaxing.

The first, and perhaps most significant distinction is their location. They’re on the 4th floor of the Epicenter with some of the best views of Charlotte’s skyline from every one of their dental chairs. All of the chairs are memory foam massage chairs and once you sit down, they give you a pair of noise-canceling headphones and let you choose between enjoying Charlotte’s skyline with some music, or watching on of your favorite Netflix shows on their Smart LED monitors. The only problem is that your cavity might be filled before your show ends.

They also use the latest dental technology such as low radiation digital X-rays and laser dentistry. Their high tech Solea laser allows them to fill cavities without anesthesia (the dreaded shot) and the noisy drill. The entire patient experience is digitized with an iPad sign-in and simple Email follow ups.

Charlotte Art Students Are Using $20,000 In Billboard Space To Create Charlotte’s Largest Drive-By Gallery Crawl

ArtPop, a marketing collaborative for local artists, has organized a partnership between the Arts & Science Council and Adams Outdoor Advertising to launch a massive outdoor, drive-by gallery crawl in Charlotte.

This year, they will be installing a total of 12 billboards featuring local art from young Charlotte artists;

Cam Newton just stopped by the White House to help 10-year-old Rosie Smolowitz explore her aspiration to one day become president, and he took some time to have a chat with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Newton flew to Washington to film a segment of his upcoming Nickelodeon television series, ‘All In with Cam Newton‘ with first lady Michelle Obama and Smolowitz.

Cam Newton even took the time to snap a a selfie with a group of adoring fans at the White House;

In his White House segment, Newton interviews Mrs. Obama in the Rose Garden, talking about what it’s like to be the First Lady, and what kids can do to pursue their dreams.

Mrs. Obama also took some time to highlight her “Every Kid in a Park,” program – a White House initiative that allows all fourth-graders and their families to experience the country’s national parks, forests, public lands and waters, free of charge.

“All in With Cam Newton” is now scheduled to air Fridays at 8 p.m.

Mecklenburg County’s First Beach Overflowed This Weekend Angering Many Local Residents

As thousands of families from all over the Charlotte region enjoyed Mecklenburg County’s First Beach this past weekend, local neighbors were less than enthusiastic.

Many now think the beach shouldn’t have opened until there was a better traffic plan, and more parking. The beach currently has space for 500 people but only about 130 parking spots.

Many people who want to go are being forced to park in local business’s parking lots and side streets and walk.

The beach also filled its capacity several times and had to turn visitors away.

Over 200,000 People Flocked To Uptown Charlotte’s Speed Street (Video)

Over 200,000 NASCAR fans and Charlotte residents flocked to the the 22nd annual Speed Street festival in Uptown Charlotte.

The 3-day festival lines the streets of Uptown with tons of food, giveaways (from NASCAR sponsors), games, and music.

Charlotte Stories was on hand to capture some of the more interesting moments on Saturday;

This year Speed Street saw hundreds of thousands of fans and visitors from across America as they came to the Queen City to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend, visit Mecklenburg County’s first beach, and watch the historic Coca-Cola 600 race (the longest race in NASCAR).

City Manager Ron Carlee even declared the 2016 Speed Street festival an Extraordinary Event in anticipation of record-breaking crowds in order to meet increased service demands and respond to incidents.

    coca-cola 600 charlotteThe Sunday before Memorial Day is undoubtedly the biggest day in racing, with the Grand Prix of Monaco, the Indianapolis 500, and the Coca-Cola 600 all happening on the same day (Tony Stewart still holds the title for being the only driver in history to finish 1,100 miles of the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day).

    The Coca-Cola 600 was first held in 1960 – the first official race to take place at the newly built Charlotte Motor Speedway. It is still the longest race on the NASCAR’s schedule at 600 miles, and it’s also unique for the fact that the race changes drastically from start to finish. It starts around 6:20 PM in the sun, has a midway point at dusk, and the final third happens under the lights.

    This year there is a significant chance of rain – the race has to at least reach the half-way point for drivers to be awarded points toward the series.

    The race will be aired on Fox starting at 6pm tonight.

    Fun Facts about The Coca-Cola 600;

    — Second is the most proficient starting position in the field, producing more winners (17) than any other at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

    — Jimmie Johnson leads all active drivers in the Cup Series in laps led at Charlotte with 1,735 in 29 starts.

    — Joey Logano leads all active drivers in the Cup Series in average finishing position at Charlotte at 9.571.

    — Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads the seriesfollowed by Ryan Newman with 30.

    Stephen Coyle spent the entire summer breaking the parking rules to prove a point using pennies. He protested what he is saying many students and school officials are unaware of; the fact that NC state law only allows UNCC to keep 20% of the parking fines.

    He is outraged that eighty-percent of students parking fines are going to fund other schools. Besides the penny stunt, he has also handing out flyers to students all over campus;

    Wegmans in north carolinaThe legendary food retailer, Wegmans Food Markets is now planning on staking its claim in North Carolina. The Rochester-based grocery chain with a cult-like following has already spread throughout the NorthEast, and is now setting its sights southward in North Carolina’s Triangle region.

    The company has just signed a letter of intent with a real estate development company seeking to develop a mixed-use commercial project near Cary Towne Center mall in Cary.

    In the press release, the head of development commented, “Yes, Wegmans wants to open a store in Cary, N.C. We have signed a letter of intent and are working through lease negotiations with Columbia Development Group, with hopes of reaching a final lease agreement toward the middle of 2016.”

    So far, the closest Wegmans store to North Carolina is in Fredericksburg, Virginia – about 230 miles north. Wegmans is also now planning on opening new stores in in Charlottesville, Virginia, and two stores in the Richmond, Virginia, area in 2016. The company currently has 88 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland and Virginia.

    Charlotte’s Dowd YMCA About To Undergo A $26.5 Million Transformation

    dowd ymca renovationsThe Dowd YMCA is about to receive some major renovations to its facilities, design, facade, and parking.

    They are still in the process of raising funds for the entire project to fully modernize the gym, but they are very close to reaching their $26.5 million goal. The renovations include; increasing the workout and class spaces, expanding the child care area, updating the electronic infrastructure, and modernizing the exterior with a completely new glass and steel facade.

    The project will add a total of 28,000 more square feet to the current 140,000 square feet branch.

    In addition to the facility upgrades, they will also be partnering with Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church to build a 65-foot-tall parking deck on a church-owned lot at Lexington and Caldwell streets. If the city approves zoning for the new deck, construction is anticipated to start around fall of 2016.

    The Dowd Y will remain open throughout the construction process – and that’s an especially good thing considering they’re the most-visited Charlotte-area YMCA, with between 3,000-4,000 daily users.
