Top 10 Best Bubble Tea Spots in Charlotte

0

Bubble tea (or Boba tea) is a popular Taiwanese drink that’s been gaining traction around Charlotte over the past several years. The drink is made from a wide variety of fruit, milk, and tea flavors with sweetened tapioca balls (bubbles/boba) and/or fruit chunks at the bottom.

There’s now over a dozen bubble tea spots in Charlotte, with some brands having multiple locations across our region.

I have been a lover of bubble tea for quite some time, and I definitely have strong preferences. Based on my personal experience, here’s the list of the top 10 best bubble tea spots in our city:

10. New Asia Market

Once called “Grand Asia Market,” this grocery store does it all. Most importantly, it also has the best blended mango bubble tea around Charlotte for the price! The only downside is that they don’t have too many flavor options (3 fruit smoothies, taro, and the classic milk tea) and their milk teas feel powdery.

9. Crispy Banh Mi

I love their milk blended taro, however, the texture of their tapioca pearls are very inconsistent. I’ve had some drinks with the perfect chew, and other times the tapioca pearl is crumbly. But what they consistently do well are their crispy tofu appetizers and banh mis. This place is definitely a must-try for lunch or dinner!

8. Kung Fu Tea

Known as the “Starbucks” of the bubble tea world, Kung Fu Tea scores well for having the largest selection of flavors and drink customization options. However, many of their non-tea drinks are made out of powder, and the ingredients are not as thoughtfully selected as other bubble tea shops such as Around the World Cafe.

7. Gong Cha

The milk teas don’t have a strong flavor, but their non-tea drinks are very well done. Come here if you’re looking for a good dessert drink! They do not have a rewards program, however, which is definitely a major factor I keep in mind when buying bubble tea. I typically only come here when I’m in the area. I would never drive specifically to get Gong Cha since the prices are similar to other stores listed here that have a rewards program.

6. Binki Cafe

The best bubble tea place north of Charlotte/near the University area, with a selection of classic tea flavors and non-traditional flavors (like red velvet!). They offer unique drinks that are very pretty (light-up ice cubes in some!).  They also have entrée options such as ramen and rice bowls.

5. Around the World Café

There is such a down-to-earth vibe about this place, and I love the story behind the shop. If you want to support local, this is your place! The owner knows her different teas and brews everything with detail and care. There is free wifi for those interested in getting work done.

4. ShareTea

They give you a TON of toppings; this is hands-down the best boba tea chain in Charlotte! They have a great rewards program and very good blended dessert drinks like mocha, mango, etc. You can also do work here because they have free wifi and they have both outdoor and indoor seating options. The downside is that their milk tea drinks are not as strong as other shops in Charlotte (such as Boba Baba and Moji Teahouse).

3. Milk Cha Cha

Famous for their mango matcha drink that ALWAYS sells out… their tapioca pearls also have a great texture that rivals Boba Baba’s. They are located in a hip and central area of South Park (Piedmont) so you can stop by after a spin in the South Park Mall. Other notable perks are its rewards program and free wifi!

2. Moji Teahouse

New-in-town this summer, Moji Teahouse doesn’t skimp on flavor–the milk and fruit tea drinks here have a very strong tea flavor (you can tell they use freshly brewed tea), which is a quality that is hard to come by. Not only do they sell bubble tea, but their mochi doughnuts are very well done and they have other small snack foods too!

1. Boba Baba

The menu has a lot of classic, authentically Asian (primarily Chinese/Taiwanese) options; they have a fantastic salted cheese cream and their tapioca pearls have a consistent texture (perfectly chewy). There’s a great ambiance inside that is very photogenic, and they also have a rewards program! The only downside is if you’re looking for more “American” drinks like Oreo, Mocha, etc., you won’t find it here. It is also difficult to find free parking during the week, so if you choose to work here, it may come at a price.

Nancy Mace Targets Ralph Norman’s Turf with First Major Gubernatorial Event in Rock Hill

0

US Rep. Nancy Mace will hold a town hall in downtown Rock Hill on Monday evening, marking her first major public event since officially launching her campaign for South Carolina governor.

The gathering will be held at Hoppin’ Rock Hill, 110 Southern St., at 6 p.m. and comes just one week after Mace announced her candidacy, first on social media and later during a formal campaign launch at The Citadel, her alma mater.

Monday’s event carries added political weight as it takes place in the hometown of fellow gubernatorial contender and fellow US Rep. Ralph Norman.

Norman, who represents the district hosting Silfab Solar’s controversial Fort Mill project, has faced growing criticism from Fort Mill and Rock Hill residents over his ties to the project.

Norman is co-founder of the Congressional Solar Caucus and ranks as the 20th wealthiest member of Congress, with extensive commercial real estate holdings in the region through the Warren Norman Company. Last May, Silfab’s heavy industrial Fort Mill cell factory received a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office. Federal campaign finance records show Norman’s campaign has received contributions from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the lobbying group representing Canadian-based Silfab Solar.

Mace, positioning herself as an anti-corruption alternative to Norman, has outlined a platform that includes eliminating the state income tax, overhauling the criminal justice system, expanding school choice and vocational education, pursuing judicial reform, and diversifying South Carolina’s energy portfolio.

The Republican primary field is already crowded, with Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, and state Rep. Josh Kimbrell also in the race. Former President Donald Trump has yet to endorse a candidate.

With political stakes high and the campaign season intensifying, Monday’s town hall will offer voters a closer look at Mace’s gubernatorial vision and her contrasts with opponents.

You can RSVP to Nancy Mace’s Rock Hill event online here.

Massive 1,400-Pound Great White Shark ‘Breton’ Spotted off North Carolina Coast

A massive great white shark weighing 1,437 pounds has been detected off the North Carolina coast, according to OCEARCH. The nonprofit began tracking the 13-foot-3-inch shark, named “Breton,” in 2020 using satellite tags that record 24 types of critical data, including genetics, migration patterns, and reproductive status.

OCEARCH, a global leader in ocean research and shark conservation, has tagged nearly 500 sharks since 2007 through almost 50 expeditions. The organization collaborates with more than 90 research institutions worldwide to map vital shark habitats and improve conservation strategies.

Earlier this year, the group tagged its largest male white shark ever, “Contender”.

If you’re on swimming at any North Carolina beaches in the next few weeks, experts recommend taking extra precautions, including removing all shiny jewelry, wearing magnetic shark repellents, and avoiding wearing colorful swimsuits.

Your risk will increase if you go near the water at dusk or at night.

Bicycle Accident Compensation: How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Callous Bureaucracy

0

About 50 million Americans ride a bicycle every year, for recreation, sport, or simply riding to work. Of these, about 50,000 are seriously hurt annually. And some of those 50,000 face another obstacle in receiving compensation, even if they were blameless. In the article below, we will tell you how not to be a victim of unscrupulous insurance bureaucracy and how to receive proper compensation for the accident.

Understanding the Problem

A bicycle accident will spin your world: you can be lying in a hospital with severe injuries and giant hospital bills, never mind the emotional turmoil. The settlement of a bike accident refers to the amount of money an injured bicycle rider can claim to compensate for losses incurred due to the accident. Such losses take the form of medical expenses, lost income, damages to property, and even non-economic losses such as pain and suffering, etc.

However, it might be difficult to have fair compensation even with hard evidence of your innocence. Insurers complicate it by the use of litmus tests in order to pay less:

  • Lowball offers: Your insurers are able to give you a low offer, which does not serve all your needs;
  • Denial of liability: When the insurance company claims that you were partially at fault, then it might affect the level of compensation to be paid;
  • Complicated regulations: The traffic regulations on cyclists wearing helmets or wherever they break the traffic rules may influence the result of your case.

In case of rejecting a fair price by the insurance company or denial of the fault by the at-fault party, the court could be the only resort. Then, you will surely require an experienced lawyer.

However, before you can do this, you must make an estimate of what your compensation should be. You can use this tool to assess the potential payout based on the data you provide. The calculator will take into account the medical expenses, lost income, and gravity of the injury. Remember, however, the result is a guess. The reality of the number may be different, and this is dependent on numerous variables that we list below.

Key Factors Determining Your Compensation

The compensation depends on several factors:

Medical Expenses

This covers everything cost-wise, including emergency care, surgeries, and recovery. As an example, a traumatic brain injury can cost even several hundred thousand dollars.

Lost Wages

Should you not be able to be functional at the workplace as a result of your injury, you are eligible to receive lost wages. An example is that a computer programmer receiving 10,000 dollars monthly could receive an impairment of 60,000 dollars over a six-month period of missed income.

Pain and Suffering

The damage that is not economic in nature is more difficult to measure; nonetheless, it is serious. As an illustration, at a rate of pain and suffering of 3, the number of medical costs would be 30,000, giving a value of pain and suffering of 90,000.

Navigating the Legal Process

In order to obtain reasonable compensation, it’s essential to get solid evidence. But the process of compensation is nearly certain to be complex if the insurance agency attempts to make lowball settlements.

Having an attorney working on your behalf will drastically alter the outcome of your case. Here’s why:

  • Detailed case examination: Lawyers take into consideration hidden costs, such as health care in the future or reduced earning capacity;
  • Negotiation skill: A skilled lawyer knows how to fight against insurers and negotiate for the best possible compensation;
  • Contingency fees: Most attorneys work on a “no win, no fee” basis, which minimizes the economic risk to the victim.

We recommend reaching out to professionals who deal only with bike accidents and are results-driven. Their experience has helped thousands of bike cyclists get justice — and it can help you, too, if need be.

Final Thoughts: The Only Right Move

A bike accident is not just a case of bodily injury and financial loss — it’s an emotional one too, especially when you have to battle cunning insurance adjusters. But if done correctly, you can be the winner in that battle and receive what is yours. Get a free consultation at Bicycle Accident Lawyers Group and leave the professionals to do their job. Be safe on the road, and do your best to take care of yourself.

How to Plan the Perfect Day in the Smoky Mountains

0

What does the “perfect day” look like anymore?

Between swiping through half-hearted social media posts and doom-scrolling the news while pretending to meditate, the idea of planning a day that’s actually fulfilling has started to feel—well—ambitious. And yet, tucked between the Tennessee-North Carolina border lies a destination where that ambition isn’t so ridiculous. The Great Smoky Mountains, especially near towns like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, still offer that elusive combination of peace, beauty, and low-stress adventure. No algorithm curates it. No filter needed.

You don’t need a week. You don’t need a 30-point checklist. What you need is a good pair of shoes, a bit of prep, and a willingness to let time stretch in a way your calendar app rarely allows. In this blog, we will share how to plan the perfect day in the Smoky Mountains—from quiet mornings to unforgettable afternoons.

Start Early, but Skip the Hustle Culture Mindset

Waking up early for joy—not work—is a quiet win. Sip something warm and unhurried, and head into the park before 9 a.m. to catch the stillness before the crowds. Skip the overlooks at first and try the Gatlinburg Trail near Sugarlands Visitor Center.

It’s a flat, riverside walk that lets your senses catch up. You’re not here to conquer nature—just to belong to it again.

Map Out One Highlight, Not Ten

In today’s always-on culture, there’s a temptation to squeeze as much into one day as possible. But vacation burnout is real. People fly across the country only to spend their afternoons arguing in the parking lot of a scenic viewpoint because someone didn’t pack granola bars.

So here’s the move: pick just one showstopper. And if you want an option that weaves together history, wildlife, and views without the need for hiking boots or elevation gain, drive the Cades Cove Loop.

This 11-mile, one-way road is like flipping through the Smokies’ photo album. Early mornings are best for wildlife sightings—think deer, wild turkeys, maybe even a black bear (at a respectful distance, of course). The loop is also dotted with 19th-century cabins and churches, quiet reminders that mountain life once meant making peace with isolation.

Stop at one of the pull-offs. Eat a packed lunch. You didn’t come here for a drive-thru.

And if you’re looking for something a bit livelier after that peaceful drive, consider booking an adventure with Smoky Mountain Outdoors. They offer white water rafting trips that strike the perfect balance between adrenaline and awe. You’ll get wet. You’ll laugh. You’ll probably scream a little. But you’ll also look around and realize you’re not thinking about your inbox—and that’s the point.

Lean Into the Weird, Local Flavor

A perfect day in the Smokies shouldn’t feel like it came from a travel brochure. Sure, lots of parks have views and fresh air—but this region, especially around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, has its own kind of charm: quirky, unpolished, and completely uninterested in being trendy.

After a day in the woods, trade trail maps for hand-painted signs and wooden porch swings. Wander into shops that sell everything from homemade jam to bear-themed everything. Pick up cinnamon bread you didn’t plan on. Take a selfie with something oversized and slightly absurd.

In a world obsessed with “content,” these small towns remind you that not everything needs a brand strategy. There’s something refreshing about a place where souvenirs still include hand-stitched aprons and mystery fudge. Step into a store that creaks under your boots and smells like old cedar. The conversations are slower, the smiles less polished, and the vibe? Just right. And if you happen to catch the scent of staple Southern dishes drifting from a back porch or roadside smoker, follow it—you won’t regret where it leads.

Wind Down Like a Human, Not a Device

Too often, people treat the end of a travel day like powering down a laptop. Quick dinner. Brush teeth. Lights off. But the Smokies deserve better than that.

Settle somewhere quiet. Not because you “should practice mindfulness,” but because stillness has value—especially when it’s earned. Watch the sun dip behind the mountains. Let the blues shift to purples. Let the cicadas handle the soundtrack. You’re not being lazy. You’re participating in a moment that doesn’t need optimizing.

Consider journaling. Or sketching. Or just sitting still for once. It’s not always easy in an attention-starved world, but it matters.

A good day shouldn’t feel like a to-do list. It should feel like something that doesn’t need explaining.

Why It Matters Right Now

Here’s the thing. We’re all tired. Not just physically, but emotionally. News cycles churn. AI writes our emails. Every minute feels like it should be doing more than it is. Somewhere along the way, “free time” became another hustle.

That’s why days like this one matter more than ever.

The Great Smoky Mountains offer something that feels almost endangered: authenticity. Not in a branded, rustic-chic way, but in the sense that the land hasn’t been polished to fit expectations. It’s messy. Lush. Moody, sometimes. But real.

Planning a perfect day here isn’t about crafting the ultimate highlight reel. It’s about remembering how it feels to be unplugged, unrushed, and maybe even a little unproductive.

It’s about getting dirt on your shoes and barbecue sauce on your fingers. About following a curve in the road just because it looks interesting. About deciding that watching a squirrel for five minutes is, in fact, a perfectly valid use of time.

In a world spinning faster every day, that kind of presence is rare.

And worth planning for.

All in all, you don’t need to be an expert hiker or wilderness guru to enjoy the Smokies. You just need curiosity, a little prep, and the willingness to trade your schedule for something a bit more unpredictable. It’s not about ticking boxes. It’s about finding joy in small, unscripted moments.

The perfect day doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it just sneaks up on you—between a quiet trail and a rafting trip. Between that first sip of mountain air and the last ray of sunset behind the ridgeline.

The Smokies are ready when you are. No push notifications required.

How Can Online Therapy Help You Manage Mental Health while Juggling Career and Family?

0

Many people find it challenging to balance work, family, and their own well-being. As demands grow in both their personal and professional lives, finding time to focus on mental health can be difficult. Online therapy gives busy individuals the chance to seek support in a way that fits easily into their schedules. With increased flexibility and less time spent commuting, more people are choosing virtual options that make taking care of their mental health more convenient than ever before.

Flexible scheduling allows therapy sessions to fit around work and family commitments.

Online therapy offers appointments early in the morning, late at night, or even during lunch breaks. This flexibility makes it easier for those with full-time jobs or unpredictable work hours to get support without rearranging their routines.

Parents can attend sessions after their kids go to bed or while their children are at school. Some therapists also offer weekend or evening times, making mental health care more accessible for families with busy schedules. No need to worry about commuting or long travel times. Connecting from home not only saves time but also provides a private, comfortable space for therapy. Flexible scheduling means people can seek help at times that work for them. For example, Encino’s board-certified psychiatrists offer convenient options so that anyone juggling a career and family can find a session time that fits their needs.

Confidential online sessions provide a safe space to discuss stressors related to career and home life.

People can have private sessions with online therapy, where they can talk about pressures from work and family. Sessions are kept confidential, so people can share worries without fear of their information being shared. This privacy often makes it easier to open up about topics that are hard to discuss with friends or co-workers. Balancing job demands with family needs can create stress that feels overwhelming. Online sessions allow people to speak honestly about these struggles, whether they are about managing work deadlines, childcare, or relationship challenges. Therapists listen and help guide them in addressing these issues.

Because sessions happen in a safe online setting, people can attend from the comfort of their own homes. This can help them feel more at ease and willing to express their true feelings. Having a secure space supports their mental well-being while managing life’s daily demands.

Therapists offer tailored strategies to manage work-life boundaries effectively.

Therapists understand that balancing work, family, and mental health is not always simple. They use their training to help people set clear boundaries between work time and personal time.

One common approach is helping clients identify their limits and practice saying “no” when needed. This way, people can give enough attention to both their jobs and their families without feeling stretched too thin.

Therapists might work with clients to create daily routines. These routines can include short breaks, time for family activities, and ways to disconnect from work after hours.

They also teach self-care habits, like regular exercise, sleep schedules, or relaxation methods. These habits support mental health and help prevent burnout.

Talking with a therapist can make it easier for people to recognize early signs of stress. By being aware, clients can act before problems grow, making daily life more balanced.

Accessible support helps address anxiety and depression induced by juggling multiple roles.

It can be stressful and overwhelming to manage both work and family. The constant push to handle many roles often leads to anxiety and depression. These feelings can build up when people feel they have to meet many demands at once.

Online therapy can provide a space to talk through these challenges. People can get help from a therapist without needing to travel or rearrange their busy schedules. This makes it easier to reach out for support when time is tight.

Some find that online therapy lets them express feelings they might not share in person. This can make it simpler to open up about worries and stress. For those dealing with mental health issues, this kind of support can help lessen the weight of daily responsibilities.

Having access to support from home or work can help people cope with difficult feelings. Online therapy can offer practical advice and help work on skills like time management, setting boundaries, and self-care. This can make it easier to keep up with both career and family life.

Career-focused counseling aids in navigating professional challenges without sacrificing mental health

Career-focused counseling gives individuals a space to talk about work stress, difficult changes, and decisions. It is designed to help people balance career goals with emotional well-being.

Many people feel pressure from work that affects their mood and energy at home. Counselors help them set healthy boundaries and improve time management, which can lead to less stress. This allows them to be more present with their families.

Through counseling, individuals can discuss their career worries, such as workplace conflict or feeling stuck. A counselor helps explore options and make choices that support both mental wellness and job satisfaction.

Career counseling also addresses stress related to major shifts, like changing jobs or managing new responsibilities. It supports clients in building coping skills and confidence while dealing with these transitions.

By focusing on both career needs and mental health, individuals are guided toward solutions that are balanced and practical for daily life.

Conclusion

Online therapy gives people an easy way to get help while handling work and family life. It can fit into busy schedules and offers flexibility for those who need support from home.

Therapy online connects individuals to licensed professionals through calls or messages, making regular support more possible. It helps people talk about anxiety, stress, and other issues without extra steps like driving to appointments.

Some may like seeing a therapist face-to-face, but for many, virtual meetings work well and can make help easier to reach. Online therapy is not a perfect solution for everyone, but it gives many people a practical tool to care for their mental health.

Charlotte-Based Six Flags CEO Zimmerman To Step Down Amid Revenue, Attendance Drop

Charlotte-based Six Flags Entertainment Corporation just announced that CEO Richard Zimmerman will step down by the end of 2025. The company confirmed he will remain in his role until a successor is named to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Zimmerman, who led Cedar Fair for more than six years, took over as CEO of the newly merged Six Flags-Cedar Fair entity in July 2024. The merger moved the company’s corporate base to Charlotte and created North America’s largest regional amusement park operator, with 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resorts across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico — including Carowinds, Cedar Point, and Kings Island.

“The Company has significantly evolved since I first joined what was then Paramount Parks, Inc. in 1987, and it has been an honor to have led such talented teams through critical and transformative periods over the years – not only for our company, but for the entire amusement park industry,” said Zimmerman in a press release. “Since completing the merger of legacy Cedar Fair and legacy Six Flags a little more than a year ago, we have made significant progress on our integration efforts and cost synergy goals. That said, there remains an immense opportunity to further optimize the portfolio and unlock the full value of the Company’s unique assets and intellectual property. We are reaching more guests than ever before and continuing to advance our strategic priorities, which I am confident will enable Six Flags to drive tremendous value creation over the long term. Together we have built a global leader in family entertainment with a resilient business model and bright prospects, and I look forward to supporting the team to help ensure the Company achieves its full potential.”

The announcement comes as Six Flags faces declining attendance and revenue. The company reported $930 million in net revenue for the second quarter, missing Wall Street expectations of $1 billion. Attendance fell to 14.2 million visitors, a 9% drop compared to last year, which the company attributes to extreme weather across key markets.

The company has not provided details on Zimmerman’s reason for stepping down. However, Six Flags officials emphasized their commitment to continuity and a successful CEO transition as the company continues navigating a competitive and weather-sensitive industry.

Retail Giant SPAR Moving Entire Headquarters From Michigan to Charlotte

SPAR Group has just announced plans to relocate its entire headquarters from Michigan to Charlotte.

The company plans to move into its new space at 110 East Blvd. this October, bringing 75 employees with it.

SPAR’s CEO, Mike Matacunas, said the city’s international airport, robust public transit system, and vibrant business climate made it an ideal fit. The company has signed a long-term lease for 16,000 square feet in the 24-story tower, which opened in March 2024.

“Relocating our headquarters to Charlotte opens up new opportunities for SPAR and the business. This location is central to our clients and major retailers in the southeast such as Walmart, Home Depot, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Lowe’s, Kroger and many more, while also providing us access to amazing talent and resources,” said SPAR CEO Mike Matacunas in a press release.

SPAR Group partners with major national retailers including Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Kroger, and the Dollar Tree family of stores. Its new headquarters places it among other high-profile tenants such as Coinbase, SouthState Bank, and Patterson Pope.

The $186 million 110 East project offers a mix of office, retail, and dining space. Though it currently sits at 37% occupancy, the building is continuing to attract new tenants. Next year, Atlanta-based Spanish tapas restaurant The Iberian Pig will open on the ground floor.

The move marks another major milestone in Charlotte’s transformation into a leading destination for corporate headquarters and innovation-driven companies.
