A 17-year-old has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of 6-year-old Mariana Espinoza in northeast Charlotte.
CMPD identified Lachevis Finnie, 17, as a suspect Monday evening after stopping the wanted vehicle. Police charged Finnie with felony hit-and-run resulting in death.
Court records also show Finnie does not have a valid driver’s license.
Police say Mariana was crossing Barrington Drive at Lanecrest Drive Friday afternoon when she was struck. The driver allegedly fled north without stopping.
Mariana was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died Saturday.
CMPD had been searching for a gray 2012-2015 Mercedes-Benz C250 with heavy front-end damage. Investigators later found a 2013 Mercedes-Benz and seized it as evidence.
Finnie is being held without bond and is due back in court Wednesday.
The investigation remains active.
