On Monday night the Panthers officially announced the hiring of Dan Morgan as their new president and general manager.

Morgan was selected 11th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft and spent his entire seven-year career with the Panthers. He accumulated impressive stats with the team, including; 390 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and five interceptions. He was a key player in the Panthers’ 2003 Super Bowl run, setting a record with 25 tackles in Super Bowl XXXVIII (against Tom Brady in his prime).

Morgan’s appointment comes at a time when the Panthers have been seeking a clear direction. His deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in Carolina, both in terms of winning and the kind of personnel required, makes him a valuable asset. Beyond his playing achievements, Morgan has a strong background in scouting. He started as an intern with the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, advancing through their ranks during their Super Bowl journey and eventually becoming their director of pro personnel. In 2018, he joined the Buffalo Bills as their director of player personnel, gaining experience in multiple successful NFL organizations.

“Dan has a thorough knowledge of our football personnel and a clear vision to take us where we all want to go,” Panthers owner David Tepper said in a press release. “We know he will attack this opportunity with the same intensity he did as a Panthers player.”

For the general manager position, the Panthers also considered several other candidates, including Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown, Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby, Buccaneers assistant GM Mike Greenberg, Chiefs VP of football operations Brandt Tilis, Saints assistant GM Khai Harley, Ravens VP of football administration Nick Matteo, Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds, Raiders interim GM Champ Kelly, and Lions COO Mike Disner.

What do you think about the decision?
