NC DMV Launches New Grocery Store Kiosk Program in Charlotte To Fight Wait Times

Long lines at DMV offices could become a thing of the past with a new pilot program placing self-service kiosks in Harris Teeter stores across North Carolina.

According to the NCDMV’s website, the initiative, aimed at reducing wait times, allows customers to renew driver licenses, order duplicates, change addresses, and even register to vote at select locations. More services like vehicle registration renewals are expected to roll out soon.

The first kiosk is now operational at the Harris Teeter off Smith Farm Road in the Queen City, with plans for seven additional kiosks by mid-2024.

If successful, more locations may follow suit. Transactions incur a $4.95 fee plus a 2.35% credit/debit card fee, which goes to Intellectual Technology, Inc. for service delivery, with no cost to the state.
