One of the fastest rising stars in professional basketball has just been given the key to our city.
Yesterday afternoon, Four-time NBA champion, NBA Finals MVP, Davidson College grad, and longtime Charlottean was awarded the key to Charlotte by Mayor Vi Lyles in a ceremony at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
“I am just so proud of the way Steph has accomplished his amazing legacy. You do it with style, class, humility, and a lot of love for your faith and your family,” Lyles said in a press release. “Just walk into any gym and you will see kids wearing his jersey, trying to copy his moves and his shooting style. He’s been an inspiration to many.”
It was truly my honor to present @StephenCurry30 with the key to the city of Charlotte. You have been an incredible ambassador for the game of basketball and an inspiration to kids who hope to one day walk in your footsteps. Thank you for all that you’ve done for the Queen City. pic.twitter.com/NDA2ZjiOyt

“Charlotte is in my blood. It’s in my DNA,” said Curry. “I’m so proud. When anybody asks, ‘Where are you from?’ I wasn’t born here, but I am from Charlotte. Best 21 years of my life — spent it here, and I carry it with me everywhere I go.”
7-year-old Ayden: “In Charlotte? Steph Curry?…this is the best day ever.”
Steph: “You know what’s crazy? I’m from here.”
Ayden: “Wait what?!…How’s your career in the NBA?”
Steph: “It’s amazing. Learned everything I learned about the game from here. In Charlotte.”@CLTgov pic.twitter.com/GJ1prxYfFb
