Forest Fire Was Intentionally Set in West Charlotte

742

Yesterday afternoon the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department intentionally set fire to the woods around the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve.

The controlled burn was not only set to prevent possible wildfires in the future, but also to try to kill invasive species that have taken hold around Charlotte.

Yesterday they uploaded this Facebook Live video explaining how and why they lit the controlled burn.

The controlled burn lasted about an hour, and the smoke it produced could be seen as far away as Lake Norman to the north and The Charlotte Douglas Airport to the south.

Did you see any smoke yesterday?
