North Carolina-based Samaritan Purse has just erected our state’s first Covid-19 field hospital in Caldwell County.

The organization was contacted by 5 area community hospitals who’ve been experiencing a significant strain on their facilities due to a recent surge in cases.

The city of Lenoir was selected as a central location for the emergency 30-bed tent facility, which is now the second Covid-19 field hospital Samaritan’s Purse has set up in the U.S.

The first patient was admitted last Thursday, and by Friday, a total of 13 patients were being treated in the tents.
