Charlotte Sports Foundation Announces New High School Football Award and Scholarship

The Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) announced today, the creation of The Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick Award presented by Dr Pepper to be given annually to a senior football player from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) who displays talent both on the field and a passion for their community. The award, which comes with a scholarship, trophy and recognition at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, is named after Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick of Myers Park High School.

During the early years of school integration in Charlotte, Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick, a Black running back, suited up for a predominantly white Mustangs team in 1965 after previously attending Second Ward High School. Facing hostility on and off the field, Jimmie persevered and crossed the goal line 19 times earning him All-American honors and the award for the best high school football player in Charlotte. Despite these recognitions he was not named to the Carolina’s annual all-star game, The Shrine Bowl, leading to a civil rights lawsuit and ultimately the desegregation of the game.

“I am honored to be a part of this award and excited about the recognition it will offer young athletes,” said Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick. “I was always encouraged to take risks and dream, even though the recognition and the path to success wasn’t there for Black athletes in my day. When I did receive honors, I was inspired and saw doors opening – for myself and others. I hope the students receiving this award will feel similarly inspired for the recognition of their personal character and for the impact that they are making in their communities.”

“When we first thought of this award we knew Jimmie would be an incredible person to name it after,” said Danny Morrison, executive director of CSF. “He not only is one of the greatest players in Charlotte football history, but he endured so much with positivity and steadfast determination. He is a trailblazer in every sense of the word and we hope his story continues to inspire generations of Charlotteans.”

Each fall, the 19 public high schools of CMS will select their semi-finalists for The Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick Award to represent their school on the field at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. From those individuals, one winner will be announced and will receive a scholarship, in addition to the trophy that will be displayed at their school for the following year. The trophy, which is a bronze bust in the likeness of Kirkpatrick, will be inscribed each year with the winner and their high school.

“Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools is honored to partner with the Charlotte Sports Foundation to recognize some of our most talented student-athletes,” said Erica Turner, Director of Athletics for CMS. “Rewarding our students-athletes on and off the field will help boost their confidence and encourage them to strive for excellence.”

A panel of representatives from the CSF, CMS and the community will select the winner each year from the nominees provided from the schools. Equal weight will be placed on athletic achievement and community impact with the overall goal of recognizing individuals who match the character and passion as the award’s namesake.

“Providing tuition for prospective college students has always been important to Dr Pepper, and we are excited to partner with the Charlotte Sports Foundation to continue providing opportunities through the Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick Award,” said Rob Coulter, Division Sales Manager, Dr Pepper.

These Historic Photos Will Show You The Growth of Uptown Charlotte

Charlotte was originally founded in 1768 on the crossroads of two Native American crossroads, on the corner of Trade and Tryon, or Independence Square.

Since then, there have been three major periods of growth, the first was during Charlotte’s gold rush (1799-1849), the second was the building boom of the 1920s, and the third started in the late 80s and still continues today.

Here’s Uptown Charlotte this year:

Buying Print and Apply Labeling System – Tips for Choosing an Ideal Print Engine

Buying Print and Apply Labeling System – Tips for Choosing an Ideal Print Engine

The task of choosing an automated print and apply labeler system is usually not a cakewalk. It becomes harder for that company that is foraying into automated labeling for the first time. The print engine is a vital component of the print and apply labeler system. The function of the printing is dependent on the print engine. Other than printing, the print engine is responsible for different works of the printer.

The print engine can receive the data and process it. It takes out the label from the roll of the main printable label and detects the label length. It can also make the printable label removed from the liner and then the feeding on the application device is possible. A print engine is a sophisticated machine, and you need to be careful in choosing the model and the brand of the engine.

There are several specifications that you need to consider when you decide to buy a Print engine. To name a few, you need to check the following.

  • Speed of the Print
  • Direct Thermal as against Thermal transfer printing
  • Resolution post-printing

There are factors that we often overlook but you cannot ignore them while selecting the print engine for print and apply labeler system.

1. Serviceability

Whether you want to get your printer serviced outside with a local service vendor or make an in-house facility, timely service to the print engine needs to be on the priority list. Similar to the automobile engine, there are many components of the print engine that need regular maintenance and cleaning. Sometimes there might be a requirement of replacing the primary parts like the platen roller or the thermal printhead.

The delay in replacing the element of the print engine or difficulty in cleaning might result in low quality in the print, users’ fatigue, and a slowdown in the production line. The quality of the print is dependent on many factors. The essential one is a correct platen roller and a clean printhead. These elements need to get access with ease for better cleaning. Also, removing and placing another component has to be fast and easy.

Most of the new generation print engines have a tool-less specification for replacing the printhead and changing platen rollers quickly. These features in the print engine make it convenient for a better service to the key components. It results in less wastage of time in the maintenance.

2. Connectivity

The meaning of connectivity is about the data communication interface features that are necessary for the printer application. Almost all printers have various inbuilt interface options. But every application uses a unitary interface for communication. So, make sure to spend on your specific requirement only. A removable communication interface is always better, which is also called a plug-in type interface port.

A removable communication interface is convenient to change in case of damage or any change in the communication style. If the interface port is in the motherboard of the printer, there are chances of delay. It is because the downtime increases. It takes time for the replacement of the interface port in the event of damage. However, the replacement of interface with a plug-in or replaceable kind is much easier and instant.

3. Commitment

The print engines installed in the Automated Print Apply Application are way different from the old-fashioned desktop label printers. The limitation of desktop printers is that the label production volume is low, or if they receive a heavy workload, it takes a longer time for execution. Also, they get installed in a protected environment or within offices.

Whereas the Print and Apply Print Engines, give you uninterrupted production for a longer time. These printers provide you with performance throughout the day without any breaks during the week in the production setup.

The over-extended use of Print and Apply Print Engines needs a committed design, a dedicated team for development, and continuous assistance, and a better track record of excellence and dependability in the market.

4. Usability

Humans are the most vital asset of the company. Most of the companies overlook this aspect while finalizing the print engine. But in reality, it is the aspect that needs attention. Once you invest in the printer, it cannot be left idle. The operator uses it and continuously interacts with the printer. The operator feeds the label in the printer, changes ribbons, and adjusts the setting depending upon the conditions.

You get an extended downtime in the printer applicator during the replacement of ribbons and labels. Hence, the steps involved need to be intuitive and instant as much as possible for the person operating. If it gets fixed correctly and quickly, there is an optimization of system uptime.

Once you are with the supplier of the Printer try the process of loading labels and ribbons yourself and check the convenience. Be attentive when the technician demonstrates the process of loading and uploading the platen ribbons and printed labels. The steps involved need to be intuitive, and the operators should learn the process with little or even without extensive training.

5. Data Compatibility

The IT departments of almost all the corporations today are engaged in selecting the brand of printer. However, the printers are production equipment, but still, need to get connected with the data network of the company. Therefore, it becomes the responsibility of the IT team. Every manufacturer of the thermal printer has a different language. For instance, a brand X printer might use an APL as their language. But the brand Y printer can use BPL as their printer language.

There is no second thought that data compatibility is essential, but it should not be the only criteria for selecting the print engine. Most of the modern printers are designed to emulate or handle different printer languages. It means a Brand Y can be compatible with both languages BPL and APL. It offers the company an opportunity to select the best printer with data compatibility.

Opting the Best Quality Label Printer

There is no denying that a usage environment and application can be completely contrasting. It is expected from the print engine to perform in any given situation and conditions. The printer must possess the ability to print the labels as needed without hampering the production. A printer not standing up to expectations often leads to production loss and enhanced downtime.

While selecting the printer, the corporates need to invest in a branded model that best suits their requirements. They will have to consider all the factors that will have an impact on their production process. Management needs to ensure that the printer meets both the technical and operation requirements.

CBD Oil and How to Use it Safely: 3 Science-Backed Benefits

At large, whenever it comes to science-backed benefits with the medicinal qualities of CBD oil combined with how to use it safely, a number of things and impeding questions arise and beg the universal question, albeit the FDA’s rigid standpoint keeps consumers safe, there are thousands of articles online and real CBD user testimonies.

Therefore, it’s important to know that top CBD companies make sure CBD consumers know that the Food & Drug Administration does not support their products, but it doesn’t stop millions from buying and using CBD oil.

To learn how to safely use CBD oil and discover three science-backed benefits, keep reading this guide for the best information on the subject to date.

How to Use CBD Oil?

CBD oil is a convenient medium for digesting the therapeutic properties of extracted compounds from the hemp or cannabis L-Sativa plant. There are several ways to take CBD oil, with a dropper being the most popular method. Some people even add the drops to their favorite food or beverage but sublingually is the most popular way.

Most CBD oil comes in bottles with droppers that extract each dose. It’s easy to see the amount of CBD per bottle as most are manufactured with the dosage clearly marked on each container. The average size ranges from 10ml bottles to 1000ml and each dropper contains the CBD oil and can be used as described above quite safely and effectively.

CBD Oil: 3 Science-Backed Benefits

Anytime a claim is made about CBD oil other than the ones approved by the FDA, they are not to be trusted. Therefore, buyers beware that if you come across a website claiming CBD oil treats health conditions such as chronic pain, inflammation, heart disease, or any other condition, do not purchase them.

Instead, look for CBD vendors and suppliers that do not make medical claims but provide science-backed evidence and real reports on CBD oil that people can relate to. It’s never good to trust a shady business that claims to be something other than they are because you could be buying low-quality or straight bunk.

Here are three science-backed benefits of CBD oil:

  1. CBD for Chronic Pain

A 2020 science-backed study published by the US Library of Medicine suggests that CBD may contain some medicinal properties for those living with analgesia and epilepsy. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, CBD is still considered a schedule or V drug; however, when properly labeled, it can be sold to the public.

CBD oil has also been proven ineffective for chronic pain for certain individuals. Bodyweight, age, dosages of CBD oil, and the quality of the products all affect each person differently; therefore, experiment with doses and brands for the best results.

  1. Better Concentration

Healthline’s Sian Ferguson published a 2020 report on the effects of CBD oil for better concentration and increased energy as well as chronic conditions such as diet, stress, and sleep but also says that there needs to be more science-backed evidence before it becomes proven through clinical trials and animal and human case studies.

Her research also showed that CBD oil is good for waking up for some individuals but stated the same as above, more research is needed. Further, sleeping disorders could be treated by using CBD oil to get a better night’s sleep; however, the key is falling asleep, and sleep itself would be the cure with CBD oil just inducing sleep.

  1. CBD Oil for Health and Wellness

Harvard Health Publishing at the Harvard Medical School posted a 2021 article written by a leading contributor, Peter Grinspoon, MD. He backs the use of a prescription-strength medicine with extracted cannabidiol (CBD) that the FDA supports.

Epidiolex is prescribed for health conditions involving anti-seizures such as Lennox-Gastaunt syndrome and Dravet syndrome, which both affect those suffering from seizures, especially children.

There were also other areas of science-backed case studies involving animals where lab mice were used to test for anxiety, chronic pain, arthritis, insomnia, and addiction. Since most CBD oil products are not approved by the FDA, conducting self-studies before buying or trying CBD may be the right approach.

While CBD may be helpful to treat various conditions, more scientific tests and support by the FDA still need to happen before they are marketed or become a prescription medication.

Where to Buy Lab-Tested CBD Oil?

While the internet provides many sources and vendors, it’s always best to check to see if the CBD merchant is trustworthy and has the proper information accurately listed on their website. A good tip is to search for CBD sites that provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA), a lab-tested CBD product that displays the CBD/THC content.

Furthermore, Lab-tested CBD oil can be found at medical marijuana dispensaries and come with third-party lab reports as well as educational reading materials explaining the effects of CBD oil and their product menus.

Additionally, CBD consumers say buying CBD at the local head and smoke shops aren’t always the best place to purchase your CBD oil. Many stores are not transparent and selling products with little to no CBD whatsoever. Always check the labels and CBD suppliers before buying CBD oil for the best science-backed benefits.

How to Be Successful at eCommerce

Running an ecommerce business sounds like a no-brainer when you consider some of the advantages — like the fact you can operate it without needing to sign a lease on an expensive retail space. Although online buying and selling has been on the upswing for years now, there is still plenty of opportunity for new merchants to enter the marketplace.

However, being successful at ecommerce still requires a strong strategy guiding each decision you make about your store. Online sellers have taken many different paths to achieving ecommerce profitability, but thriving stores tend to share a few things in common.

Here are three general tips on how to be successful at ecommerce.

Don’t Just Open a Store — Create a Brand

There’s a massive difference between opening a store and creating a brand. The former involves setting up the infrastructure needed to display products and accept payments. The latter involves creating the design and functionality needed to make a distinctive impression on shoppers.

What are the components of an ecommerce brand? Here are a few, according to Multichannel Merchant:

  • Logo: Aim for simplicity and recognizability here.
  • Brand style guide: Create a set of guidelines to which your website, marketing and social media pages will adhere.
  • Unique selling proposition: Use a USP to differentiate your brand from the competition and establish your brand’s “X factor.”
  • Story: Connect with customer by creating and publishing your brand story — including its history and values.
  • Voice: Communicate with the world in a consistent voice that helps bring your brand personality to life.

Generic ecommerce stores are a dime a dozen, but successful ecommerce brands truly stand out from the crowd.

Make Customers the Center of Everything

When in doubt, ask: What does the customer want? This is true whether you’re deciding what to include in an email newsletter, adding a new product to your store or overhauling the navigation on your website.

In fact, something as seemingly “simple” as how easy or difficult your website is to navigate can make or break conversion rates. Perhaps the most important element of your entire ecommerce website is the main navigation bar, from which people can move throughout the organized pages to find what they’re seeking. As CIO advises, adding site search as a shortcut to get people where they’re trying to go faster is a smart way to keep people on your website and guide them through the sales funnel — rather than pushing them into the arms of your competitors.

Make Content Creation a Cornerstone of Your Store

What is the role of content creation in ecommerce today? First of all, creating on-site content rich with target keywords helps increase your website’s search engine rankings. This gets your website in front of more “eyes,” which in turn can drive traffic to your store.

Effective content can also motivate people to take desired actions — like signing up for your loyalty club or shopping your seasonal sale – via targeted calls to action. There are many different ways to connect with customers via content: social media captions, email marketing messages, website landing pages, blog posts, product descriptions and more. A major goal here is to balance the use of keywords with your brand voice, so as to create a recognizable tone people can come to expect from your company. Consider how photographs and videos can factor into a strong content strategy, too.

Being successful at ecommerce is like putting together a puzzle. There are many pieces that must interlock to create a whole image — including (but definitely not limited to) content, branding and customer experience.

Understanding the Mental Health Impact of Debt

Understanding the Mental Health Impact of Debt

Anyone who has ever held debt can attest to the fact that it’s stressful. In fact, Capital One’s Mind Over Money survey showed that for 45% of Americans, managing debt levels is a significant source of future worry. And financial stress can lead to multiple issues for both your physical and mental health. Here’s what you need to know about the mental health impact of debt and what you can do to reduce the effects.

How debt impacts mental health

Virtually everything we do in life, from getting an education to raising a family, costs money. And it’s no wonder that taking on significant debt just to get by creates an immense amount of stress. In fact, the stress associated with debt can manifest in many ways, including:

  • Physical: Regular and intense financial stress can cause headaches, cardiovascular issues, and sleep disturbances. The Mind Over Money survey reported that 43% of survey respondents felt fatigued because of financial stress, and 42% indicated difficulty concentrating at work.
  • Mental: Stress has been shown to increase instances of anxiety and depression in some individuals. And while it may seem counterintuitive, the burden of debt can cause people to spend more in an effort to alleviate some of the negative feelings of depression or anxiety. Those who are depressed may also lack the motivation to keep track of finances or work toward paying down debt. The mental health impacts of stress can also affect job performance and make it difficult for someone to effectively communicate with others and complete their work.

With all of these physical and mental health impacts of debt, we need to constantly explore new ways to cope with financial stressors.

How to cope with financial stress

If you have debt and are feeling the weight of financial stress, you can take actions that may help:

  • Seek professional help: It’s important to loop in support as soon as you realize you’re experiencing mental health issues from debt. And there are professionals in the financial and mental health spaces ready to help. Consider setting a meeting with a financial planner or counseling service to help you create a debt management strategy. Or you may need to talk to a licensed therapist to discuss coping mechanisms for stress.
  • Create a debt repayment plan: A debt repayment strategy, like the debt snowball method or debt avalanche method, is an essential first step in eliminating your debt and lessening the mental health impacts. You’ll need to outline all of your existing debt, figure out minimum monthly payments, and break down what you can afford to spend on debt repayment. Then, make a commitment to stick to your strategy for a set period. That may mean you need to set up autopay and regular financial reviews to protect against future days where you may not feel like sticking to your plan.
  • Re-consider your spending habits: As you dig your way out of debt, it’s critical to not take on additional debt and get spending under control. That means you’ll need to examine and correct any spending habits that might be keeping you in debt. Consider making small changes like leaving online purchases in your cart overnight, removing saved credit cards from your web browser, or running purchases by a partner or close friend before you buy.

The bottom line

Holding onto debt can create an increase in financial stress and put a strain on your mental health. And the impacts like reduced focus, fatigue, and degraded job performance can cause future damage to your ability to repay debt. If you feel that debt may be negatively impacting your health, be sure to create a sustainable debt repayment plan and get professional help as needed.

It can be challenging to know what teams to watch if you are new to college football, especially this season! With so many teams and different stats out there, it can be confusing and leaves you unsure where to place your money and which team you should follow.

Well, no more! Today we are here with all the answers you need. Keep reading to find out who the teams are you should watch this season!

NCAAF: Who are the teams to watch this season?

Here we have a list of the college football teams to watch out for this season. A mixture of consistent and successful teams and perhaps some lesser-known college football teams seem to have an exciting season ahead. Keep reading to see what teams you should be following this season!

The tried and trusted success stories.

College football is exciting to watch and has a huge following across the country. However, four teams seem to be monopolizing it for the past few years and winning year after year! Who are these teams? They are:

  • Alabama
  • Clemson
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma

These four teams have dominated the playoff era and have won 22 conference championships between them since 2014! You can expect to see at least one of these four teams in the Playoffs. There’s only been one match that hasn’t featured one of these back in 2015! If you want to follow a success story or place a more strategic bet, any one of these four teams would be a good place to start.

Georgia

Last year, Georgia had a tough time, and we saw some bleak losses to Alabama and Florida. But, with JT Daniels and the return of their key offensive players, the tide looks as if it’s about to turn! It’s hard to make predictions, of course, but Georgia has a good team lined up and fantastic play potential.

It will be interesting to see how this translates into reality, especially when they play against Clemson. You can expect Georgia’s games this season to be highly anticipated, with lots of viewers hoping to see the team take center stage.

Cincinnati

Cincinnati is a bit of a powerhouse outside of the Power 5 conferences and one to watch! Over the past three seasons, the team has built a name for itself with an impressive 31-6 record. The team reached number 8 last year in the Playoff Committee’s Top 25. It’s not quite the top four like the teams we looked at earlier,m but could that change?

They’ve got a cracking lineup for their team and a head coach that focuses on defense. If you are looking for an exciting team to get behind and support, Cincinnati is a good place to start.

Penn State

Penn State hasn’t had the best start. They lost their most promising offense talent and their backup to injuries and retirement. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t a team to watch! They have won some games and have a decent team filled with talent.

While they might not enter the top ten this season, you might see them aiming for the New Year’s Six bowls! It will be interesting to watch Penn State and see how far up their rankings this season. If you want a team you can get behind and hopefully enjoy a journey upwards to success, Penn State is a good place to start!

Final word

And there you have it, the teams you should be watching this season! Whether you use this information to find a new team to follow or place more strategic bets, we hope you found it helpful. Be sure to check out player and team stats before placing any bets and not to spend more than you can afford when placing bets and gambling.

4 must-have traits of reputable rehab centers near me

When looking for a drug or alcohol rehab center, it’s important that you find a reputable treatment center that has programs in place that suit your individual needs. However, you also don’t want to end up going to a place where it’s going to seem more like a vacation than a situation to gain life-altering treatment that will help you deal with addiction.

In today’s society, there are more traps than ever to become addicted to either alcohol or drugs, whether they be prescribed by the doctor or procured on the streets.

How Do I Find Reputable Rehab Centers Near me?

To get the treatment you need you’ll have to admit that you need help, at which point you can start performing your due diligence in finding a reputable rehab center. Instead of typing “rehab centers near me” in your search bar and randomly selecting whatever treatment center you find on the first page of results, it’s a better idea to take a deeper look into each candidate before you settle on the right one for you.

Below, we go over 4 must-have traits of a reputable rehab center near you.

1.) Do They Have a Website?

Any reputable rehab center will have a website that can be easily found after typing “rehab centers near me” in your search bar.

2.) Are There Personalized Programs Offered?

Although you don’t want a rehab center that is going to pander to every patient’s whim and personal preference, you do want to select a drug or alcohol rehab center that offers custom-tailored treatment instead of one-size-fits-all solutions.

3.) Check the Track Record

A good drug and alcohol treatment center will have a great track record of success, meaning that those who complete the program end up staying sober and living a productive life after overcoming addiction.

You’ll want to make sure that the rehab center in question has good customer reviews, not to mention a prestigious reputation among its peers.

4.) Progressive Treatment Options

It’s important to choose a rehab center that is going to give you your money’s worth. A lot of places charge high prices yet deliver substandard treatment in facilities that haven’t been updated in years. Instead, look for rehab centers that incorporate health and wellness practices like yoga and meditation. You will want to substitute self-destructive behavior with a new and healthy routine, of which you will lay the foundation during your time in rehab.

Whichever rehab center you choose, make sure that they have a good reputation, a stellar website with great customer service, as well as treatment options that help you build a new, reliable routine that will be so much more peaceful and productive than the chaos that addiction always brings. Perform your due diligence in finding the right rehab and treatment program that challenges you and ultimately provides you with a reliable foundation to take on life on life’s terms. Now all there is left to do is select your treatment center and make the call today.
