FBI Issues Amber Alert with $15,000 Reward For Kidnapped North Carolina Teenager

The FBI has just issued a state-wide Amber Alert with a $15,000 reward for a teenage girl who was reportedly kidnapped from her yard yesterday.

According to Lumberton police, a man dressed in all black, wearing a yellow bandana is now the primary subject in the kidnapping investigation of 13-year-old Hania Noleia Aguilar.

Aguilar was reportedly taken from her yard in the Rosewood Mobile Home Park in a stolen Green 2002 Ford Expedition.

The FBI released the following poster yesterday on social media;

They also set up a complete roadblock on Elizabethtown Rd. in Lumberton, stopping all drivers and showing them the flyers;

Last night, the FBI released an updated photo of the SUV, which had a South Carolina license plate # NWS-984. Investigators also added the vehicle had a Clemson sticker on the rear window.

With November being National Diabetes Awareness Month and Americans collectively spending nearly $237 billion per year on obesity-related health costs, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2018’s Fattest States in America.

Both of the Carolinas ranked even higher than they did last year. South Carolina came in at #8 (up from #13 last year), and North Carolina is the 17th fattest state in the country (up from #22 last year).

To determine which states contribute the most to America’s overweight and obesity problem, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics. They range from share of overweight and obese population to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents to obesity-related health care costs.

Solstice Tavern Just Shut Down After Serving NoDa Patrons For 12 1/2 Years

NoDa’s beloved Solstice Tavern, which now features one of Charlotte’s most beautiful graffiti murals, has just announced that it shut down for good, effective immediately.

At about 10am on Monday, 11/5/2018, the beloved bar in the heart of NoDa sent out the following message on their Facebook page;

“Due to circumstances beyond our control it is with regret we inform all our patrons that Solstice Tavern is now closed.
We sincerly appreciate all the support and friendship throughout the past 12-1/2 years. We wish everyone and the neighborhood the very best for the future!!”

The management at Solstice has not yet replied to our requests for more information.

Bojangles’ Coliseum Invites Community to Share Memories For New Public Art Installation

As part of work related to the connector facility linking Bojangles’ Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium, the City of Charlotte, ASC, Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) and ODELL Architects will work to create a public art installation that pays homage to the legacy of the 63-year-old venues.

Artist Blane De St. Croix of BDSC Studio has been commissioned to create an impactful artwork that responds to the parameters of the site, the aesthetics of the architecture, and the history and character of Bojangles’ Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium. To inspire this artwork, the City of Charlotte and CRVA are asking residents to share their memories of the venue through a survey, which will inspire the content of the artwork.

“We hear from so many Charlotte residents reminiscing about the experiences they’ve had at these venues,” says CRVA CEO Tom Murray. “From cheering on the Checkers to experiencing their first concert to celebrating a graduation here, both venues have become an integral piece of Charlotte history.”

The public art installation comes as part of the City of Charlotte’s Public Art Ordinance, which specifies that the funds for public art are based on “an amount equal to one percent (1%) of the projected construction costs at the time the project is included in the City’s Capital Improvement Plan.” Artwork costs earmarked for this project are estimated to be $94,350 to cover all artist fees, design, engineering, testing, fabrication, permitting and installation as well as travel, public meeting presentations, administration, taxes and insurance relating to the project. ASC manages the public art programs for the City of Charlotte.

BDSC Studio is a Brooklyn-based artist studio led by De St. Croix in consultation with designers, architects, and other creative collaborators focused on the intersection of public space and the environment. The studio has extensive experience creating socially engaging public spaces, as well as artworks that explore landscapes and the underlying environmental issues embedded in them. In combining these two lines of investigations, the studio aims to make public art that brings an added awareness and appreciation to our natural and urban environments.

“BDSC Studio is excited about this dynamic project, as many of the greatest musicians, icons and athletes have performed on the stages at Ovens Auditorium and Bojangles’ Coliseum over the last 63 years,” says artist Blane De St. Croix. “It is revealing this history through the memories and experiences of Charlotte’s residents that the public artwork will capture.”

The survey will be available for residents to respond to until Friday, Nov. 16, 2018. Work on the piece will begin this fall and the unveiling of the artwork installation will take place when the Bojangles’ Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium connector facility is complete in January 2020.

Mooresville-Based Lowes Just Announced Plans To Shut Down 51 Stores Across North America

Mooresville-based Lowe’s Corporation just announced today that they will be shutting down a total of 51 stores in North America as part of a company-wide “wind-down”.

According to their press release, the company will be closing the stores “to focus on its most profitable stores and improve the overall health of its store portfolio.”

“While decisions that impact our associates are never easy, the store closures are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a stronger business,” said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO.  “We believe our people are the foundation of our business and essential to our future growth, and we are making every effort to transition impacted associates to nearby Lowe’s stores.”

President Trump Sending 2,000 North Carolina Troops To Border As Part of ‘Operation Faithful Patriot’

The Pentagon just released the complete list of units now en-route to our southern border as part of “Operation Faithful Patriot”. An estimated 5,500-6,500 troops are being sent from 14 bases across our nation – the largest number, roughly 2,000 troops, is coming from North Carolina’s Fort Bragg.

The deployment was ordered by President Trump to help assist the border patrol with a caravan of Central American refugees currently walking toward the US-Mexican border to seek political asylum.

The president has been very vocal about the potential threat of the caravan, tweeting that he thinks the group potentially contains terrorists, gang members and other threats;

North Carolina’s Fort Bragg will be sending about 2,000 soldiers (exact troop numbers have not been released) to our southern border as part of ‘Operation Faithful Patriot’, including the following units (troop number estimates are based on our research);

Charlotte Was Ranked As Having The #1 Fastest Growing Apartment Submarket In America

Charlotte’s Uptown/South End region was recently ranked by MPF Research as the #1 fastest growing apartment submarket in America.

The Texas-based data firm released their rankings this past week.

Charlotte’s Uptown/South End region has seen a growth rate of 107.7% since 2012, which was 8.8% higher than Dallas’ Frisco/Prosper submarket, which came in second place.

Since 2012, we’ve seen 4,093 new apartments built, with another 4,874 apartments now under construction. Our current average monthly rate is $1,428 and has seen an annual rent increase of 3.7%.

Police Asking For Help In Finding Sexual Assault Suspect Near Uptown Charlotte

Early Thursday morning, a sexual assault occurred around the streets of Uptown Charlotte and police are now asking for the public’s help in finding the perpetrator.

The assault occurred near the intersection of Freedom Dr. and W. Morehead Dr., just outside 277;

The assault victim was immediately rushed to CMC. CMPD officers began looking for the suspect and increased patrols around the area, but they weren’t able to find any solid leads as of this morning.

They just released the following request for help from the public;

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in providing information that will assist them in identifying the suspect involved in a sexual assault that occurred in the Metro Division.

On Thursday, November 01, 2018 at 3:05 a.m., Metro Division officers were dispatched to a sexual assault call for service. The 25-year-old female victim advised that she was walking on E. Morehead Street when the unknown suspect approached her and sexually assaulted her. During the assault, the suspect took the victims cell phone.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male about 25 ye.ars-old, 5’7″, and weighs about 165 pounds. The suspect had a short afro and was last seen wearing a maroon hoodie and blue jeans.

The Panthers Are Going All Black For The First Time In 5 Years

The Carolina Panthers will be wearing their legendary black-on-black jerseys this coming Sunday against the Buccs.

This will also be the first time we will break out their all-black jerseys in a regular season game since way back in 2013 when we lost the Divisional Playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers.

Since 2013, we have been exclusively wearing all-white uniforms in the playoffs, and it’s been working. Out of whole playoff history, we’ve won a total of nine times while wearing all white. By comparison, every time we wore our black home uniform or some alteration of it in the playoffs, we lost (2008 vs. the Arizona Cardinals, 2013 vs. the 49ers, and Super Bowl 50 vs. the Broncos).
