Topgolf just announced plans to open their highly anticipated 2nd Charlotte location later this week in University City.

The company has been trying to build the facility for over 4 years now, after being plagued by a series of roadblocks. In 2017, they discovered their building site contained a historic slave cemetery, then in 2020, the opening on their new site was delayed by the pandemic.

Topgolf is a “golf entertainment complex” offering targeted games where players hit ‘microchipped’ balls as close to various targets and special zones as possible. The balls individually record their location before and after they are hit, and give individual scores for each player.

The new facility will employ approximately 500 individuals and features 102 climate-controlled driving bays, a rooftop terrace, outdoor patio, and full food and drink menu.

“As a company focused on building roots and growing the game, we are excited to double down and build an even stronger bond with the culturally rich community of Charlotte,” Topgolf Chief Executive Officer Artie Starrs said in a press release. “The new Charlotte venue is in a great location, and we know it will serve the community as an excellent destination to kick off summer and beyond.”

Topgolf is now planning to hold a grand opening event this coming Friday, June 4th.
