A major thunderstorm wreaked havoc on our region last night, causing hail damage, fires, power outages, and a destroyed home in Mount Holly.
A 65 mph micro-burst was even detected at the Charlotte Douglas Airport, causing a complete ground stop for all flights;
The airport tweeted a video of the wind, along with a message that “Ramp is closed due to lightning in the area. Please check flight status with your airline for updates.”

Last night over 7,000 Duke Energy customers were without power after trees took down power lines across our region.
As of 10:30am this morning, there are still 143 active outages across our region, stopping power to 1,739 total customers:
