Rock Hill is gaining statewide attention as a rising center for technology and innovation after being selected as one of six official innovation hubs in South Carolina.

The initiative, led by the South Carolina Research Authority, aims to accelerate high-tech business growth and strengthen the state’s innovation economy. Rock Hill joins Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, Aiken, and Florence in the new network.

The hub will be based at Winthrop University, where leaders plan to create a collaborative environment to help startups grow into scalable companies. The effort will connect entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship, and resources while encouraging partnerships between universities, investors, and local businesses.

Rock Hill’s selection builds on years of momentum. Projects like Knowledge Park and the Gravity Center have already helped attract startups and foster innovation in the city.

State leaders say the hubs are designed to drive long-term economic growth by supporting emerging companies and creating high-paying jobs.

For Rock Hill, the designation marks a major step forward. It positions the city as a key player in South Carolina’s growing tech economy while creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, students, and businesses.
