Police Responding To Reports of Active Shooter at North Carolina High School

According to Brian Shrader with WRAL, the Pender County’s Emergency Management Director Tom Collins said police are inside the building and investigating reports that the incident involved “malfunctioning equipment on the roof of the gymnasium.”

The Pender County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a report of an active shooter at Topsail High School in Eastern North Carolina.

According to police, the report came in at about 6:30 am this morning. At 7:03 a.m., Capt. James Rowell commented that no injuries have yet been identified.

According to school officials, Topsail High School, Topsail Middle School, and Topsail Elementary School are all now locked down.

Buses for the 3 schools are being directed to the nearest Lowe’s Foods, and parents have been notified to pick up their bus-riding children from there. All staff members are also being asked to check in at Lowe’s Foods as well.

Eric Ortiz, a reporter on the scene, just posted this picture of what looks like SWAT officers on the roof of the high school;

This has now been the second active shooter situation in 2018;
