NC Governor Cooper recently announced plans for SteriTek to build a new $59.9 million East Coast sterilization facility right here in North Carolina.
The new facility will be build in Burlington, about 90 miles northeast of Charlotte.
Contract sterilization firm SteriTek supports the medical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and tissue industries by offering a proprietary system for sterilizing human tissues, pharmaceuticals, and other complex situations. Their new 125,000 square-foot North Carolina facility will significantly increase their sterilization capacity.

“SteriTek’s new facility in Alamance County is a great addition to our already thriving biotechnology and life sciences industry,” Governor Cooper said in a press release. “Companies value our central location, skilled talent, and thriving life science ecosystem as they execute their strategies here in North Carolina.”

The state used a $95,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund to help SteriTek choose North Carolina for their new East Coast facility. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance to local governments to help attract economic investment and to create jobs.
