The MoRA community on Monroe Road near East Mecklenburg High School just launched a new series of music and art community events – Thursdays Live. A series of six events, each held the second Thursday of each month, will feature local bands and artists to be held at the Embrace community sculpture located at the intersection of Monroe Road and Conference Drive.

Thursdays Live will feature a variety of bands and genres, ranging from rhythm and blues to classic rock and modern country. Local favorite U-neek Flavur will kick off the series with their mix of vocal harmony and high energy, entertaining choreography. Vendors slated for the events include King of Pops and their tasty ice pops, and Mister Twister, a popular creator of balloon art.

“This series should be a lot of fun for our entire community,” said Kathy Hill, chairperson for MoRA. “These gatherings will be a great opportunity for residents of all ages to enjoy some time together at our newly finished community sculpture, Embrace,” added Hill.

The events will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Free refreshments will be served.

The Embrace sculpture was dedicated this past fall. It includes benches and has always been envisioned as a gathering place as well as public art.
