Two valued leaders in our community were killed yesterday in a horrific helicopter crash on the side of I-77 in Charlotte.
The victims of the accident were confirmed to be WBTV‘s news chopper pilot Chip Tayag and WBTV meteorologist Jason Myers.
Tayag is now being considered a hero after witnesses say he made ‘diversionary moves away from the highway’ to avoid any further injuries or loss of life.
The pilot is a hero in my eyes. Witnesses indicated that the pilot made diversionary moves away from the highway to save lives. Because of his heroic acts, there were no further injuries or vehicles on the highway involved in the incident. https://t.co/yjpeN6zyBF

According to WBTV, the crash occurred just after noon yesterday near the Nations Ford Road exit on I-77. All lanes were closed for several hours while emergency officials investigated the scene.
Please keep the Tayag family, the Myers family, and the entire WBTV News family in your thoughts and prayers this week.
