A 51-year-old inmate has just died at Mecklenburg County’s Detention Center in Uptown Charlotte.
Michael Daniel Mangan was found dead in his jail cell at 5:38 am on Sunday morning after being booked into jail on Friday.
According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, first responders performed emergency CPR on Mangan at just after 6 am to no avail. He was pronounced dead at 6:23 am.
Officials at the sheriff’s office have not yet confirmed what Mangan’s charges were or if there was any connection between COVID-19 and his death.

By Sunday night, the “Black Lives Matter Here” sign had been ripped and red paint had been thrown onto the front windows of the facility.
