The Matthews Town Council voted 5-2 on Monday night to approve the much-debated expansion plan for Idlewild Road. The project will include a grocery store, a bank, restaurants and retail outlets, as well as 570 housing units comprising apartments, townhomes for rent, and houses for sale.
Prior to the meeting, a large number of locals gathered at the town hall to express their disapproval of the scheme, worried about the traffic congestion and high density it could bring.
