The Catawba Nation is preparing to open the next major phase of its massive $1 billion Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort project this week near Charlotte.
Officials announced the new “introductory casino” will officially open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, replacing the temporary casino facility that has operated since July 2021.
The expanded casino represents the first permanent phase of the larger resort development currently under construction in Kings Mountain along Interstate 85.
The new gaming floor will feature:
- 1,350 slot machines
- 36 electronic table games
- 22 traditional table games
- Sports betting kiosks
- A player rewards desk
- A 68-seat restaurant
- An 18-seat bar
The new facility adds roughly 250 more slot machines and eight additional table games compared to the temporary casino.
Crews are currently relocating around 600 slot machines from the temporary casino while simultaneously installing hundreds of new machines and gaming stations inside the upgraded venue.
Construction on the full resort complex remains ongoing.
Once completed, the overall development is expected to span roughly 2 million square feet and include:
- A 24-story hotel tower
- 385 hotel rooms
- Nearly a dozen dining outlets
- A marketplace with six food venues
- A café
- 11 bars
Officials currently project the full resort will open in spring 2027.
The casino has already become a major entertainment and tourism draw for the Charlotte region since its temporary facility opened nearly five years ago.
The larger resort expansion is expected to significantly increase tourism traffic, gaming capacity, and economic activity in the Kings Mountain area over the next several years.
