Huntersville Oncologist Doctor Pleads Guilty To Child Pornography Charges

dr-shope-porn-chargesHuntersville’s Dr. David Shope is now scheduled to stand before Charlotte’s U.S. Federal Courtroom next week where he will plead guilty to child pornography charges after signing a plea agreement with his attorney and federal prosecutors.

New court documents have just been released that show Dr. Shope shared pornography of children as young as 12 years old to other people over the internet and to an under CMPD detective in 2015.

According to the documents, the videos and images were taken outside North Carolina.

Shope was originally arrest in October of 2015 with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. His bond was set at $120,000.

According to US News, “Dr. David Shope is a medical oncologist in Huntersville, North Carolina and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Carolinas Medical Center and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been in practice between 11-20 years. Dr. Shope accepts several types of health insurance, listed below. He is one of 32 doctors at Carolinas Medical Center and one of 4 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center who specialize in Medical Oncology.”

Doctor Shope’s medical license expired four months after he was arrested.

A plea agreement hearing is now scheduled for next Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the federal courthouse in Uptown Charlotte.
