Concord native Terry Splawn just one the $1 million prize from the Millionaire Bucks scratch-off ticket. He now plans on using his winnings buy a new house for him and his wife.

“My wife has been wanting to move for a while. She’s been looking at new homes ever since I showed her the ticket. I’m not sure what we’ll get, but it will definitely have a man cave,” Splawn commented.

Last Friday, Splawn stopped by Sam’s Mini-Stop on Concord’s Old Charlotte Road and purchased a Millionaire Bucks scratch-off ticket with a $20 bill.

“I didn’t recognize that it was a winner at first,” Splawn said. “It wasn’t until I looked at the ticket the next morning that I realized I won.”

He then immediately drove up to Raleigh to claim his prize money, where the lottery headquarters gave him the choice of taking a $1 million annuity that has 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. He decided to go with the lump sum and after federal and state tax withholdings received $417,012.

Millionaire Bucks still has two $4 million prizes and one $1 million prize remaining. Many people are now turning to websites like LotteryCheat.com to know which scratch-off games currently have the best chances of winning, based on the remaining number of tickets and prizes.
