Charlotte Roller Derby Holding Their 2020 Season Opener Tonight

Charlotte Roller Derby opens their 2020 season on Saturday, February 29 at Kate’s Skating Rink. The Charlotte All-Stars ranked #122nd in the world, will battle against their biggest rival, the Gate City All-Stars ranked #124th in the world, from Greensboro, NC. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the bout will begin at 7:30 pm.

While Charlotte has moved up past Greensboro in the world rankings, they have yet to defeat them since 2015! The bout will be held at Kate’s Skating Rink (1151 Skating Rink Dr. Gastonia, NC).  Free parking will be available on site, be advised that seating will be limited and spectators are encouraged to pack a folding chair, bean bag chair, inflatable unicorn or whatever they desire to sit upon #nojudgement.

Beer, soft drinks, and food concessions will be available for purchase. Fans will have the chance to win prizes from our Merch Table, in the popular “Chuck-a-Duck” contest along with other fun games for Adults and Kids at halftime. Skaters will be available for autographs and fan photos in the center of the track after the bout.

Advance tickets are available at the Charlotte Roller Derby website (http://charlotterollerderby.org/tickets/) or at The Common Market: $10 for adults and $5 for children (6-12 years, kids five and under are free). Fans can also purchase tickets the evening of the bout at the venue, while supplies last: $12 for adults and $7 for children.

To get a full year of derby action (six home bouts), season ticket packages give the purchaser VIP status, which includes reserved seating, lanyard and other Charlotte Roller Derby merchandise. Full-season adult ticket packages are $60 (plus tax and online fees) and full-season child ticket packages are $35 (plus tax and online fees). Following the bout fans are invited to the derby afterparty aka “Sip & Skate ” held at the same location. This is a separate 21+ event and fundraiser for CLTRD.  A portion of all beer sales will go to fund the practice space rental for the league. Tickets for the “Sip & Skate” are $10 presale and can be found on Charlottes Facebook page.

Out of over 400 leagues worldwide, Charlotte Roller Derby is currently ranked 122 in the world. Greensboro Roller Derby is currently ranked 124  in the world by Womens Flat Track Roller Derby Association.
