GardHouse, a Charlotte-based nonprofit that develops college students of color for employment, has received Social Venture Partners Charlotte’s (SVP Charlotte) investee grant, totaling $60,000 over three years. SVP Charlotte, a venture philanthropic organization, will present a check to GardHouse during a ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. at The Forum at Hope Haven, located at 3815 N. Tryon St. The investee grant is a multi-year, capacity-building program that invests unrestricted funds into nonprofits making an impact in Charlotte.

For its investee grant program, SVP Charlotte annually selects a grassroots organization whose mission progresses upward mobility by attacking social and economic barriers. It has invested over $1.8 million into 25 grassroots organizations since launching in 2005. Leaders say organizations like GardHouse represent their goal to invest funds, time, expertise and social capital into strengthening local nonprofits working to make the Charlotte community a better place to live.

GardHouse launched in 2019 and has partnered with Charlotte-based businesses and nonprofits, such as the Latin American Chamber of Commerce and 100 Black Men of Charlotte, to provide 10-week paid internships and financial literacy workshops for college students. More than 200 students have completed the program since its inception.
