Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Reaches Record-Breaking 1.7 Million Digital Book Checkouts in 2022

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library announced today that it reached a record-breaking 1.7 million digital book checkouts in 2022. This milestone illustrates the continued growth and importance of library lending of e-books, audiobooks and other digital content as well as the library’s success in serving all members of the community. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is #46 of all standalone public libraries, one of 129 public library systems worldwide and the third in North Carolina that surpassed one million digital checkouts last calendar year (complete list here).

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has been providing readers 24/7 access to e-books and audiobooks for several years through the award-winning Libby app, the library reading app created by OverDriveThe large collection serves readers of all ages and interests, and reader usage has grown every year.

“We are excited to celebrate our fourth consecutive year exceeding one million digital checkouts,” said Caitlin Moen, Chief Library Services Officer at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. “Our community is a vibrant group of readers, leaders and learners. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is proud to continuously support our cardholders through access to resources such as the Libby app.”

The highest-circulating title Charlotte Mecklenburg Library readers borrowed in 2022 was The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. The top-circulating genre, thrillers, represents the most popular in a vast catalog that also includes mystery, romance, children/young adult and more.
