North Carolina is officially the first in flight…again.
After recording the first human flight back in 1903, and recording the first autonomous taxi flight in January of this year, today we also became the first state in America to witness a drone delivery in a controlled airspace.
The groundbreaking operation was conducted by a partnership between Novant Health and Zipline to deliver emergency protective gear to a hospital in Huntersville:

To conduct the operation, the FAA granted Novant Health a special Part 107 waiver for the operation.
Novant Health will continue to deliver PPE and other types of critical medical supplies to other Novant Health teams all around the Charlotte region via drones for the foreseeable future.
