The Checkers have just won their first national championship in history.
This past Saturday night, the new Calder Cup champions defeated the Chicago Wolves 5-3 in game 5 of the championship series.
This is now the Charlotte Checkers 1st AHL National Championship since they started in 2010. The win also marks the city of Charlotte’s 7th national hockey title, with Charlotte-based hockey teams also winning the top prize in 1957, 1971 and 1972, 1975, 1976, and 1996.
Our hometown heroes will now be hosting a city-wide celebration tonight starting at 7pm at the Bojangles’ Coliseum.
