David Bruton Smith, the CEO of the 4th largest dealer group in America (with over $10 billion in revenue last year), was just arrested in Charlotte on a slew of assault-related charges.

WBTV’s David Whisenant just broke the news on twitter, saying “David Bruton Smith, Sonic Automotive executive, arrested in Charlotte, charged with assault by strangulation, assault on female, false imprisonment, interfering with emergency communications.”

Smith took over the reins from his father who started the Sonic Automotive Group, which is now the 4th largest public auto dealership group in America. Sonic currently operates 85 new-car dealerships and 10 EchoPark used car dealerships across 12 states. Last year the company brought in a total of $10.5 billion in overall revenue.

Sonic Automotive stock is now down 2.11% for the day.
