Ball Corporation, makers of aluminum cans and glass jars, has just announced plans to invest $383.8 million in Concord to build a new aluminum can manufacturing facility to support Red Bull’s new $740 million facility at the old Phillip Morris site.

Ball will make high-capacity cans for Red Bull and other drink makers around the Charlotte region in a new 800,000 sq. ft. facility.

“The beverage manufacturing campus in Cabarrus County is now a billion-dollar operation with the addition of Ball,” said N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders. “This is a powerful illustration of the opportunities and confidence that growing companies have in North Carolina’s resilient economy, robust infrastructure and diverse manufacturing workforce.”

Ball will be adding an additional 220 jobs (in addition to Red Bull’s 400 jobs) with an average starting salary of $70,555 to Concord’s workforce, creating a potential annual payroll impact of more than $15.5 million per year. Cabarrus County’s current average annual wage is $41,255.
