Authorities Investigating Deadly Drowning at Lake Wylie Beach

Authorities are investigating after a person drowned in Lake Wylie over the weekend, prompting a search by divers near one of the lake’s busiest gathering spots.

The drowning was reported Saturday, July 25, at the popular sandbar near Bowater Park in Rock Hill, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said a dive team returned to the area Sunday to search for additional evidence. Investigators recovered only beer cans from the lake bottom.

Officials have not said what led to the drowning, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

The victim has not yet been identified. The York County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death, and the York County Coroner’s Office is expected to release additional information in the coming days.

The investigation remains ongoing.
