Abortion Reversal Bill Gaining Support in NC Congress

A new bill call ‘The Second Chance at Life Bill‘, HB53 in the House and SB 53 in the Senate now has 39 sponsors in the House and 13 in the Senate.

If passed, the new law would require North Carolina doctors who administer an abortion pill to also inform patients that they now have the ability to “reverse” the effects of the medicated abortion.

Once a patient takes Mifepristone (the 1st step in a medication abortion), the doctor would be required to immediately give the patient written information about the possibility of reversing a medication abortion. The materials must include the following information:

“This information about your drug-induced abortion is provided by the State of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. It may be possible to discontinue a drug-induced abortion by not taking the second drug (Misopristol) and to reverse the process by administration of progesterone. It is recommended that you contact a knowledgeable health care provider regarding the abortion pill reversal process or call the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline at 877-558-0333 as soon as possible.”

The patient would then be required to certify in writing that they received the information.

SB 53 and HB 53 would require the state department of health and human services to provide the same information on the department’s website. The information includes contact information for a new nationwide Abortion Pill Reversal hotline, a subsidiary program of Culture of Life Family Services.
