A Gastonia man just drove his car through the Eastridge Mall in Gastonia.

According to Gastonia police, Jack Boone drove his car through the front of BargainMax inside Eastridge Mall at around 2pm on Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said Boone first became involved in a confrontation with store employees and customers. The dispute began after he attempted to remove a gold-plated “Sears” sign near the store entrance.

Police said Boone left the store but later returned. Upon returning, officials said he made threats before driving his vehicle through the store’s front doors.

Officers responded quickly and took Boone into custody. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

No injuries were reported despite the vehicle entering the store.

Store employees said BargainMax will remain closed Thursday and is expected to stay closed through Friday, Jan. 17, as damage is assessed and repairs begin.

The investigation remains ongoing.
