Duke Energy to Test Emergency Sirens at Charlotte’s Two Nuclear Sites Tomorrow

132

Duke Energy will conduct a full-volume siren test on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., near its Catawba and McGuire nuclear stations.

The test includes 89 sirens around the Catawba Nuclear Station in York County, SC, and 67 sirens near McGuire in Huntersville, NC. Sirens will sound for about three minutes, possibly more in some areas.

No public action is needed, as this is a routine check of the emergency alert system. In a real emergency, the sirens would be followed by radio and TV alerts via the Emergency Alert System.

The test is coordinated with emergency officials in six counties around the Charlotte area across North and South Carolina.
