A North Carolina first grader was just suspended after a handgun was found in his possession at Pembroke Elementary School, officials confirmed.
According to the Public Schools of Robeson County, the child will face a mandatory 365-day suspension. His name has not been released because of his age.
School officials said the incident began when a staff member noticed something unusual on the student’s side. The staff member pulled the child aside, separated him from his classmates, and discovered a handgun tucked into his waistband.
