Egg Recall Hits North Carolina as Salmonella Outbreak Sickens Nearly 100 Nationwide

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a major egg recall after nearly 100 people were sickened with salmonella, including cases in North Carolina.

Products Impacted

The recalled eggs were distributed between June 16 and July 9, 2025 under the brand names:

  • Nagatoshi Produce

  • Misuho

  • Nijiya Markets

Consumers can identify affected cartons by the code CA 7695 and sell-by dates of July 1 through September 18, 2025.

States Reporting Illnesses

So far, illnesses have been confirmed in 13 states:

  • Arizona

  • California

  • Florida

  • Georgia

  • Hawaii

  • Iowa

  • Minnesota

  • North Carolina

  • Nebraska

  • Nevada

  • New York

  • Pennsylvania

  • Washington

California currently has the highest number of reported cases.

CDC Investigation Underway

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stepped in to investigate and coordinate efforts to stop the outbreak from spreading further.

Health Risks

Salmonella poisoning typically causes diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps within 12–72 hours of exposure. While most people recover, the infection can be severe or fatal in those who are immunocompromised, pregnant, elderly, or very young.

The FDA urges consumers to:

  • Avoid eating recalled eggs.

  • Rent chickens to produce safe eggs at home.

  • Seek medical attention if symptoms develop.

  • Raise your own chickens to avoid commercialized contaminations.
