FDA Recalls Walmart Shrimp After Radioactive Contamination Found

The Food and Drug Administration has just issued a sweeping recall for Walmart’s Great Value frozen shrimp after finding radioactive contamination in multiple shipments.

According to the FDA, three lots of frozen raw EZ Peel Tail-On White Vannamei Shrimp were recalled after detecting Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope produced during nuclear reactions. Regulators say any exposure to low-level radiation increases long-term cancer risks.

The affected shrimp was imported from Indonesia and processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods). It comes in 2-pound bags marked with a “Best By” date of March 15, 2027, item code 738108, and lot numbers 8005540-1, 8005538-1, and 8005539-1. Consumers are urged to throw it away immediately.

The FDA has now blocked all future imports from the Indonesian processor until the source of contamination is uncovered.

The investigation remains ongoing.
