Charlotte Ranked One Of The Best Metros in America for Commuting

Despite the strong shift towards a hybrid work schedule, commuting will never cease to exist as some jobs simply require workers in the office. According to our most recent analysis of the most and least friendly metros for commuters, Charlotte landed on the 12th spot nationwide in our Top 50 Best Metros for a short and eco-friendly commute.

To rank the largest metro areas, the report factored in travel time, cost per income, commuters per population, commuters traveling more than 60 min and CO2 emissions.

Here are the highlights: 

  • The average commuter in metro Charlotte needs 26 minutes one way to get to work. 
  • The cost of commuting is around 1.9% of their $61,771 annual average income for the area, or about $1,173 being spent on fuel and maintenance. 
  •  5.4% of commuters here spend more than 60 minutes on the road travelling to or from work.
