During a routine traffic stop on I-77 this past Monday, deputies with the Iredell County Sherriff’s Department made one of the largest cocaine seizures in the county’s history.

37-year-old Sherrie Shawnte Reed of Upper Rochester, NY, told deputies she was driving back up from Florida, and told police that her car was a rental, but didn’t have any documentation. Deputies then became suspicious and decided to search her vehicle.

They uncovered over $1,700 in cash under a jacket and five vacuum-sealed blocks of pure cocaine hidden under the car’s rear-seat carpet, according to the press release.

The cocaine has a total street value of about $1.25 million.

Reed was charged with felony trafficking of cocaine by possession and felony trafficking of cocaine by transporting.

She is now being held in the Iredell County Detention Center, awaiting trial on a $250,000 secured bond.
