Although there’s still a week until the formal start of the 2023 hurricane season, the first potential storm is already brewing over the Atlantic.
According to the National Hurricane Center, “A broad low is producing a large area of disturbed weather extending a couple hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas. Environmental conditions are expected to become less favorable later today”

With June 1 set as the official start of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season, NWS officials are reminding all residents in Atlantic Coast states to be prepared for potential future storms.
In case of a power outage, make sure to have the following emergency items stocked in your home;
- Car charger for cell phones and other devices
- Clean drinking water (recommended 1 gallon per person per day, minimum three days)
- FlashlightsÂ
- Batteries: Extra batteries for all of your devices
- Weather radio/clock
- Non-perishable food
- First aid kit
